Just ordered a GEC product in fixed blade form...

Figured I'd go GEC route for another traditional style knife... but this time I ordered one of their fixed blade knives. The order is for a Tidioute with 'chocolate' gunstock jigged bone. Looking at some of their offerings, I noticed that most of their styling on fixed blades are kinda based on their folders. I can understand how some may like that, but I want mine to look more like a traditional fixed blade knife... and this one seems to offer that nicely. Anyhow, will certainly share pics of it when it arrives mid week. The pic above is from the online vendor that I ordered it from.

I have been researching some of GEC's fixed blades also. There seems to be some inconsistencies with models numbers. I have 2 fixed blades that carry the same model number on the tang, but when I look on their pages with the fixed blades, that model number only shows with one handle cover when I have one with a different cover.

I took a look for the one you posted and don't see that model number. Pages 2-4 show their fixed blades:

Thanks, Stan. I believe their pattern #10 was one of, if not the first fixed blade pattern they came out with. Maybe the packaging it will come in, will have some clues as to the when it was made. Thanks again for trying to find out for me :-)

Looks like its a 2007 model. #10 TIDIOUTE Diamond Back Chocolate .....43 pcs. Unserialized

Another question I am going to shoot your way, guys.... You notice how three rivets can be seen on one side of the handle... but only two on the other. With the shield likely being pinned in and in the way for that third center rivet... how is that third center handle rivet/pin installed? It's making me go... hmmm? Thanks :-)

Thanks for posting the pics, that's the best looking fixed blade pattern I've seen from GEC,(so far)love the bare end.
I would imagine the center pin is soldered to the shield & peened/spun on the other side.

Thanks... I am hoping she looks in hand as good as those pics.. I am excited to be getting her :-) Your idea on the pin and shield... it makes total sense to me! :-)

Kinda bummed :-( I just received a call about 30 minutes ago from the vendor that I ordered the knife from... even though I had placed the order over the phone (they were not set up for online ordering).... they do not have the knife. They are pretty much old school. I was bummed... but he did say he would send me the
Burnt Stag version, and would eat the difference. I agreed... but truly had my heart set on the that bone version. I am not a stag lover, and this will add stag to my collection... but if I had a choice, the bone is still the one I'd take. Oh well... is what it is, I guess. Don't know what year this one was made, but it is the same #10 pattern.

At least the vendor offered you this.

When you get it and possibly decide you may not want to keep it, let me know Jimmy.

Hey - that's my sig line!

That's a very becoming fixed blade. It's guard sets it off. Stag is great, and will help diversify your collection. People love stag, if you should decide to sell it later on, stag garners more attention it seems.

It does force a little bit of diversity... I really like the look of this pattern... the burnt stag just being a bit of a curve ball. Fingers are crossed that the rest of the deal goes through without any more glitches :-)

Love that blade shape and the bone handle! What a great looking knife.

Oops just seen your last post Jimmy. :( Well I'm not normally a fan of stag either but I will say the stag in that picture you posted is gorgeous and I wouldn't mind adding something like that to my collection. Is the knife in the picture the exact knife you would get?

Jimmy - If as you say; "the burnt stag just being a bit of a curve ball" make darn sure that this is the knife you want. Judging from some of your previous posts on other knives and knives in general you seem to be someone who is not satisfied unless you get exactly what you want.

Not being critical here just saying that, if you're not positive about it, kill the deal before the dealer ships. You can always search for the first knife you posted about at various dealers and auction sites. You might not find it right away but eventually you'll find exactly what you want.

It will not be sent back for it being burnt stag... since I have agreed to the deal. BUT... it will go back if it has any issues in quality (unacceptable flaws).

I am hoping it grows on me.... but even if not, I had purchased a knife in Delrin just to have one in my collection... so this will likely be the case here.... a stag represetation of some sort. It will also represent a GEC knife in fixed blade form. I was a bit annoyed when I gave the gentleman another substitute idea, a snakewood handle pattern 10, and it too was no longer in stock.... seems like a pattern of having pics online of things he no longer has. I guess I will continue to look for the one or two dealers that do best in meeting my needs.
