Just ordered a GEC product in fixed blade form...

Love that blade shape and the bone handle! What a great looking knife.

Oops just seen your last post Jimmy. :( Well I'm not normally a fan of stag either but I will say the stag in that picture you posted is gorgeous and I wouldn't mind adding something like that to my collection. Is the knife in the picture the exact knife you would get?

I may get lucky, but I don't believe that's how this dealer does it. He surely does not say that they are the ones one gets. I really am glad we agreed on a subtitute, but I let him know it was not what I has expected from my first order from his business. He did apologize, and that was fine. He also did eat the cost of the price difference...( $89.95 + $10 s&h vs. $129.95 + $10 s&h)... so that too was a great gesture..... but I doubt I will purchase from him again. It just has not been the best ordeal... my calling, being told the item would be sent, only to get a call hours later saying they don't have it.... then him not having the substitute I would have preferred.... then.... well.... it just has not been the best experience, though he seems to be trying. The initial cost was $89.95 plus $10 s&h. I really believe the price on that original knife was very good. But, many of his other knives, not so much. Example... I paid under $80 (including s&h) for a Tidioute French Kate with ebony scales. This gentleman has the same knife for $110 + shipping costs. So, that is about $80 vs. $120.... big difference, in my book. On top we have this problem of not having in stock what your site says you have, and not knowing at the time one even calls in the order... and, well..... sour taste forms. If that sounds picky... then maybe it is. But, I give you money.... which is what you want, I expect quality product and service... which is what I want.

GEC's fixed blades always caught my eye somehow (maybe it's because I don't have to worry about them being too stiff too open :D). Not a fan of those guards though. I do like the H73/H23 Canoe patterns, and I might even get one someday :)

The guard on the knife I originally ordered, was made of german silver.... the substitute has stainless steel guard. Style aside, which I personally find just fine on this style knife, I would prefer the german silver.... but again... it is what it is. At this point just hoping for a quality product... Only have two Gec pocket knives, both are well made.... so I don't think this vendor can mess up on that part ((though one never knows, since flukes happen, even with gec).

Cost/quality/service... are all factors. This particular knife was not at ksf, which I have purchased from before. But, then again... this knife was not at the vendor I ordered it from either!... lol! ;-)

There are many GEC Dealers that have a picture of the exact knife you will receive, and also provide Free Shipping. And have online ordering. Just sayin.
No Stainless Steel on that Burnt Stag Knife Jimmy.

"Stainless steel finger guard, full tang. Nickel silver handle pins"... or so it says on the description of the knife. BUT.... we all know descriptions can be flawed (actually, this was a description from the site I had placed the order from, for a knife they did not even have). As for free shipping.... I like the sound, but know nothing is free. It has to be put in with the knifes price. I look at the overall cost... not catchy free shipping offers. They too get considered, of course. Simply having what I want is also very important.... hence my having ordered the original knife, which I could not find elsewhere. Price was fair (on that particular knife)... the s&h did not change that fact enough to hurt the deal... and so where it went kaboom.. was the vendor slacking on his inventory status... and that was the problem. Him not being set up for online ordering, phone call only, was not great, but not a deal breaker either. It is old school yes, but if he had not messed up on the inventory part, and the knife would have come as expected.... I would have continued to look at his site and maybe considered other purchases..... now, nah.. I will likely pass :-)

Btw.. my recent string of knife purchases have allowed me different personal experiences. I have dealt with quite a few, some I will go back to, some I will not. I am not a consumer report agency, so all I do is keep track of the better experiences I've had, and then rotate those sellers, depending what my wants are and their ability to meet that want at the time.I have two right now on my list as best thus far.... and they will see my money again :-)

No stainless steel... well, then the vendor got that wrong too. In the end, that's actually a good mistake, imo.... And that's because, though I would have preferred the german silver guard of my first knife choice, I do prefer carbon steel over stainless guard, when the blade is of carbon steel. You are not one of the vendors I have used that are involved on this forum. I have used a few others that are. I have one of those on my list as possible future buy vendor. So, again.... with my experiences, I continue.

As for why I chose that vendor to make my order of that knife..... the price seemed fair, his shipping seemed okay in overall cost, his mannerisms on the phone were good, he offered quick shipping, and most important, he had the product listed as being in stock (and the initial call to him seemed to confirm that). None of the others that I consider ordering from, had this knife listed.... so I gave the business a shot... and yes, he blew it. Mistakes happen.... but when you it happens like this on a first order, it likely becomes the last order. Is what it is.

The guard on that knife is Nickel Silver. Seems that vendor had a lot of things wrong. [commercial comments removed.]

Cool, it gets better if it's the nickel silver I initially wanted. The blade size and pattern is the same as my original ordered knife. And, if only the handle being burnt stag is the only major difference from what I initially wanted, then maybe the whole thing will feel okay in the long run. Thanks for the input and insight.

Just a note in defense of the other dealer...keeping up with inventory is not easy. We sometimes have issues and ere is no way when we are on the phone to know. It is not until you go to the bin to find it to ship that you realize your inventory is off.

The dealer is trying to make it right. Kudos for that. :)

Talk about the knife, not the purchasing process.

In a word, cute. As for value... not so much, imo. Not a bad knife at all, but if I was to recommend one that cost less, and is overall a better deal... try a Utica Cutlery fixed blade. This does now add a Gec made fixed blade into my collection... so it does that well :-)

Is that the true color of the stag or did your camera wash it out? I love the blade shape for sure and the size looks good.

That will make a nice addition to your display cases. If I might suggest, since you like to buy knives for display, look into products like Renaissance Wax or Walker Wax. They can make a huge difference in the appearance of your display knives, especially that stag handle.
