This one!

Im not sure how long it will take to get here, but im super excited either way... I have been wanting a Murray Carter Neck Knife for a looonnnnngggggg time.

:cool::thumbup:

That is pretty awesome. I really like that one, I've come close to pulling the trigger on one. I might do that if I have any bonus money left at the end of the year.
Pics when it arrives!

It'll be the sharpest thing you own outside of a laser.
I own one and wish I had many more. Great buy.

I have been toying with the idea of putting together a custom order... though the last one I "quoted" was over $5000!!

so I think I am going to rethink my priorities, and nix the $2500 general purpose outdoor knife and just get the whitecrane and koshinata... but the damascus bowie is oh so tempting...

Just for kicks, if you have a Murray Carter Knife, post a pic or two of it... I would love to see what other BF members have.

Congrats on the new Murray Carter! I have one of his kitchen knives (an International Pro Series utility knife [approx. 5" blade] with ironwood handles). I'll post a pic or two of it this weekend when I have a bit more time.

That damascus is beautiful! I dream of one day ordering a custom damascus whitecrane/neck knife combo with mammoth handles.

There was no damascus in the photographs I posted, I think it was just the look of the oil. But here is some damascus from Murray:

I'm not proud of my addiction - and Murray Carter is one of my enablers. Terrible pictures in terrible light. I debate even showing them because they don't do Murray's work justice.

The top two are White Crane models. The first one is Damascus with giraffe bone handle slabs.
The second up from the bottom is the first knife I purchased from Murray.
The bottom knife is one I made (with lots of help and patience from Murray and crew) when I was fortunate enough to attend one of his traditional Japanese blade smithing (spelling?) classes (highly recommended).
The middle knife is one designed by one of Murray's daughters. I was looking at his inventory while at the class and could not resist.
I rotate through the three neck knives for my EDC's. The one I made is used most often because I'm less hesitant to bang it up. And yes, they can get very sharp and hold an edge well. At the class we were introduced to sharpening with water stones as well as making the kydex sheaths for the knives we made. I'm somewhat competent with the water stones now and have even sharpened a few for friends. Mike

I just sold this one, regretfully. But I plan on buying another one in the future.
Hopefully Murray will have a sale like he did a year ago.

Great lookin stuff, The white steel he uses, (Carbon I'm guessing) anyone know what it's equiv to, D2, A2, 01, anyone know, I haven't much experience with white steel #2 I think it's called.

@ somber... I'm always jealous of you Carter's!!!
That Persian is one I've been looking for for years but haven't found. You're lucky brother.

IIRC, its white steel #1 he uses for his normal laminated blades and white steel #2/blue super #2 for his damascus blades.

White steel is a very pure steel (according to his website) so I would imagine it not having more than iron and carbon. Blue super steel has other alloying elements added to increase edge retention. Due to the small carbides in the white steel, you can get a laser edge on it.

@MIKE157: I love that clip point tactical (is that what it is? or a clave?) with the black and orange G10. Beautiful!

Here is a pic from his site of the one Im getting:

I think they called that just a straight clip point and not tactical. I don't really remember, it's been awhile. I like it a lot also. I think I was eyeballing yours on the website. Very nice clean design. I'm sure you'll be happy with it! Show us some more pictures and let us know how you like it when it arrives. Mike

Here's mine. I have small hands for a man and it fits perfect, balanced perfectly. Murray really is a legend.

Thats a beautiful knife man!

I dont know why it took me so long to get a carter. I have been wanting one for years. As soon as I get a bit more financial padding, I am going to put in a custom order with Murray. I want a Koshinata, and a premium whitecrane and neck knife with damascus and mammoth handles. He also offers a "damascus" of sorts for the core steel, with 200+ layers of forgewelded blue steel #2 and white steel #2.

The Koshinata and I almost joined once, but due to the lack of info about Murray Carter at the time, I opted for a Busse NMFBM LE. I regret it to this day, because I have since sold the Busse, and want the Koshinata more than ever.

At this point in time, the two makers I am focusing on are Chris Reeve, and Murray Carter. I currently EDC an umnumzaan and it is a superb knife. I plan on continuing to carry it as well as wearing the neck knife. Overkill... maybe, why do it?.... because I can :D
