Just ordered a Murray Carter Neck Knife!

Yeah sadly I had to get rid of my Umnum. But my Carter is top notch and
I know I'm getting quality with his work. Still looking for a Persian
Style neck knife to scoop up.

Hate to be a downer, but maybe it's just me. I'm new to Murray knives but subscribed to him on YouTube as he as some great information for bladesmithing and his knives look fantastic. My confusion is why he puts so little effort into his sheaths. If I'm buying a $400 blade I'd like the sheath to look like something more than what a I could make myself. The rivets look like crap in my opinion. I only mention this as after watching his videos on and the skill and technique he used.. then to put out a dodgy looking sheath.. just blew my mind. He could spend $.23 more to get some black rivets or gromets and make a more "professional" looking sheath. If it's on my hip, who will see it.. If it's around my neck, it should look presentable. I don't recall Van Gogh using paint stirs as his frame, even though he could. Food for thought.. or maybe not.

Yeah, no custom maker has made me want his knives as badly as Murray Carter. If I could buy three custom/handmade knives as least two would be Murray's, and the only reason the third wouldn't be his, is because it would be a custom slipjoint.

His wife makes custom leather sheaths for any knife you ask for. They're quite beautiful, he himself just
Prefers kydex because it's simple and effective. So there...:)

The sheaths have to be kydex so the knife can carried from the neck, but what would you change or add to the sheaths to make them worthy of the knife?

So its currently sitting in customs... Im tracking it every hour it seems, waiting for today's status update.

Needless to say, it should be here by wednesday.

Even though I was pretty sure it wasn't coming today, I still check today's mail with anticipation, because you never know, it could be one of those freak orders that ships really quickly...maybe?

Oh well, another a sleep, and a new days mail.

:)

Damn customs! Its wednesday and nothing yet... its says its still sitting in customs...

often times though, the item arrives even though the tracking info says its still in customs.. hopefully tomorrow (the mantra of the expectant knife knut)

I must say I've been wanting to try one of Mr. Carters knives for sometime now. The most attractive aspect of his knives is IMO the blade steel (Hitatchi Super blue and white steel's) which are excellent for a general use fixed blade of just about any kind.

You're gonna love it! Here's pix of 2 more to hold you over while ya wait :) ...

Man his Damascus is the prettiest out there. Such a subtle refined look.

Don't fret , because when you get it It'll be well worth.
IMO his cutlery has got to be some of the finest in the world outside of Japan. But being that his skills are from Japan...

VERY nice!!

I'm not proud of my addiction - and Murray Carter is one of my enablers. Terrible pictures in terrible light. I debate even showing them because they don't do Murray's work justice.

The top two are White Crane models. The first one is Damascus with giraffe bone handle slabs.
The second up from the bottom is the first knife I purchased from Murray.
The bottom knife is one I made (with lots of help and patience from Murray and crew) when I was fortunate enough to attend one of his traditional Japanese blade smithing (spelling?) classes (highly recommended).
The middle knife is one designed by one of Murray's daughters. I was looking at his inventory while at the class and could not resist.
I rotate through the three neck knives for my EDC's. The one I made is used most often because I'm less hesitant to bang it up. And yes, they can get very sharp and hold an edge well. At the class we were introduced to sharpening with water stones as well as making the kydex sheaths for the knives we made. I'm somewhat competent with the water stones now and have even sharpened a few for friends. Mike

Thanks guys! I checked the tracking page, and it just cleared customs... so it will be here monday or tuesday, as items usually arrive a day or two after, but since its friday...

YES!!! It came today! Its smaller than I thought it would be, but thats a good thing, because I was worried about it being too bulky. It just screams quality.. The fit and finish is pristine.

I am simply amazed by how sharp this thing is! I have never felt an edge like this one. I now understand the 3 finger test much better, now that i have seen how a super sharp blade feels.

I will get some pics up later today.
