Yup, broke down and ordered a TAK from One Stop Knife Shop just now, tonight.

I had been thinking about a fixed blade, one smaller than most of my fixed blades, but stouter than my BeckerNecker. A tweener.
Had entertained RAT-3, also.

What made my mind up, was the TAK has a more full sized handle.
OAL on the TAK is a bit longer, but super-small size wasn't my goal.
Other thing that helped make up my mind was finding it a decent (hint: sale) price.

I got the 1095 Carbon Blade (suprise!) , no serrations, on the way! :D

Will sharpen it up real good, and give a quick test/review when it's in my hot hands.

Until then.
(sitting on porch, with a bag of chips, staring down driveway, waiting for UPS. )
Man, it's cold and dark out here!

Good decision Skunk I was gonna get one myself but then the Dumpster mutt came up for sale on the Scrapyard so I went for that. I think the TAK is about the perfect size for an EDC, the RAT 3 is a little small as an all rounder and the RAT 5 is slightly too long overall (IMO).
I also agree with your pick of 1095 and no serrations.
Post some pics when it comes !!!!:D

I think I'll test it side-x-side with the Rat-7.

Pics will follow!

edit to add: Pitdog, that Dumspter Mutt looks like the BOMB!
Give us a review on that thick hunk of steel when you get it!

Hey, that should be a pretty sweet little knife, I for sure want to know whats its like, Thought about that a few times over the Master hunter.

Got room on that porch for me? LOL
I ordered the same thing on monday. I use a money order so it will be awhile.
I can't wait.

hey turd, you're finally getting one, cool

Let us know what its like over on the Arctic Cove too :D

great deal, I don't blame you! I have the D2 model and I really like it, perfect size, fits great in my claws; you'll like it. looking forward to your pics...

nice score skunk... the TAK is an awesome knife...... i have a few friends that have them..... i prefer 1095 also..... great steel... my favorite by far.... :o

Can I just add that the reason I said that i agree with picking 1095 is that it is easier to sharpen in the field when camping etc. If I was just using a knife for dayhikes then my pick may be D2 as it would keep an edge slightly longer !
I just wanted to add this as Dantor has the D2 model and I don't want anyone to think I am putting their particular knife down !!!;)

I think you will like the TAK. It's always fun to see some of our favorite knives side by side to compare. Here is my TAK-1 in 1095 with my Swamprat Howlling Rat

Is that the angle of the shot making the TAK look bigger than the RAT ? I thought they were both about the same overall !!!

no trick photography pitdog, the TAK measures about 10" OAL with a 4.5" blade.
The HR measures about 9.25" OAL with a 4 " blade

IUKE12,

What is the weight difference between the SRKW HRLM and Ontario-RAT TAK?

If it helps...I have a TAK and the old Res-C HR

Yeah, what swayed me to the TAK,
and away from the the RAT-3 is the big full grip handle on the TAK.

Got my confirmation, shipping is happening!

With luck and a UPS man with a lead foot, maybe I'll see it Friday!
WHoooHooo! a new weekend, a new knife!!

Yeah that's about what i thought, it's just that to me the photo makes the TAK look over an inch longer !!!:D
