So I just ordered my first Hinderer. I ordered a XM-18 3.5" Bowie with brown scale. My question is - what can I expect? Do they require break-in to get the flipping action smooth? What the first mod that I should look at? I was thinking about a crusader filler. I think the bronze screws and stand-offs would look great with the brown scales.

Needless to say, I'm pretty excited. It should arrive in about a week.

Ive also been looking at the bowie blade. Very cool style. Hope you like it. Cant help with what mod to do first as I too am trying to figure out what to do to mine that I recently got.

Where'd you pick it up? Pics? Looking at Hinderers too.

Mine was buttery smooth out of the box. No break in needed.

I would do some copper standoffs for sure!

Learn how to use the flipper. You have to press down on the jimping portion of the flipper tang. Don't just pull it towards you.

Congrats on your Hinderer.

All my Hinderer's were all super smooth out of the box and they don't require any break in.

I've been carrying this one a couple of months and couldn't be happier with it. It flips very well, has solid lock up, never a hint of lock stick. I like the blade shape because I can dig in to start cuts on boxes, with the tip. Stays sharp and touches up easy. You just have to remember it flips different than bearing flippers, you can't load it up and have it suddenly pop out. The jimping is on the front of the flipper, remember to place you're finger there and roll the blade out. It's easy to flip even straight up, no wrist movement once you get the feel for it. I liked it so well I bought an XM-24 too although I don't carry it much because of it's size.

My third Hinderer is a 3.5 bowie, and it is my favorite. Flipped great right out of the box, well centered, just perfect all around.

Thanks for the pics Officer's Match and Jill Jackson! Now I REALLY can't wait for it to get here! I like the xm-24 as well, but based on my ZT0560, it would probably be a little too large for EDC at work.

The flipper isnt difficult to get working smoothly. Just the smallest twist while pressing and it snaps in place easily. Good luck finding any of the filler tabs or clips. I've been looking and havent found anything.

Thanks all for the words of encouragement! My new Hinderer arrived today and IT IS SWEET! It flips like a dream! Butter smooth! It fits in my pocket perfectly! All I have done so far is changed it to tip up carry.

^^^nice!^^^ congrats on your first hinderer!

I'm a fan of the copper standoffs and lbs with bronze hardware for mods.

Congrats on your first Hinderer. Unfortunately my experience with my first Hinderer wasn't so great as I got one that had a very, very, very weak detent...I mean crazy weak. But that didn't stop me from getting more.

I now have two (one flipper and one non-flipper) and love em both. Actually wouldn't mind getting another one ;)

That's exactly what I was thinking! My only question is do the copper standoffs dull over time? I saw some copper-titanium standoffs and am wondering if those would be better?

This one has a very very strong detent so when it lets go, it flies open. Very satisfying!
