I've been eyeing the Military for years now, and finally pulled the trigger today. I chose the standard G-10 Military with an uncoated plain edge. Mine won't be here until Tuesday, so any pics of your 'Millie's would be cool to ease my impatience. Also, any feedback on the model would also be appreciated (I know this knife has been talked to death, but humor me :)). I researched Emerson's, and Hogue's, but ultimately went Spyderco, I needed a change from BM.

What I like so far:
- Leaf style/clip point (almost even a spear style blade)
- Spydeco's jimping
- 4" blade!
- And a relatively thin handle design

I'll post pics when it arrives

My absolute favorite modern folder. What I like is the OA geometry. The way the blade is curved and how the handle presents the edge to what your cutting makes it one of the best slicers I've owned. The only thing that has come close is a custom by David Farmer. Great knife and you should have bought it sooner. For shame. :D

The Millie is by far my favorite folder. Cuts like a laser and is tough as nails. Light and easy to carry. You may have to to exercise some care with the edge though, I find it can be just a little chippy.

Interesting. I haven't heard that. If I may ask:
Is this an ongoing problem? I'm wondering if you got a burnt edge that will sharpen out.
Is there a specific medium you're experiencing these chips with or just general day to day stuff?

Best knife that Spyderco makes, if not one of the best folders made. Ergos are awesome, pocket carry is awesome. I love mine.

I have had some chipping issues, but a 40 degree microbevel does help some. I use mine for landscaping a lot, so the chipping may be due to some unintentional impacts of rocks or metal wire. Another issue to be aware of is smoothness, it will need some break-in time along with regular cleaning and relubing.

The only pic I have at the moment:

I made dinner with it the day I got it.

By far my favorite knife. Big enough to handle whatever I need done and flat ground for slicing heaven.

I've heard S30V is a little chippy in general but the Mille is the only knife I have in that steel so I have nothing else to compare it to. It's not a real serious problem with the Millie, just something to be aware of. The minor chipping I've noticed could just be my own user error though and even when it does happen it sharpens out easily. Dont let my statement scare you off, its a FANTASTIC folder.

I love the knife and it gets far more use than any other knife in my substantial collection of high end knives, around the house, at work, and out in the bush. My Millie is always with me. You're gonna love it man.

The military may just be perfect. You'll love it! I have two, a regular one in 440v and a Ti version.

Thanks for all the input! I haven't been this excited for a knife in a while. Probably should have picked one up sooner, seems like a great, functional user for any situation.

I'm under the impression that all Military models are made in the U.S. - Is that true? Makes the knife even better IMO.

Yup. Golden, Colorado USA, Earth.

There's a difference between chipping and rolling.

I have a BM 943 that chips, and several Spyderco and CRK knives that neither chip nor roll under the same uses. My Spyderco's and CRK's have been taken to significantly lower angles than my 943. Seems to me that S30V being "chippy" is something of an urban myth that gets perpetuated unfairly. While it may have been true of the early runs of S30V, most knives I've seen don't have this problem.

I'd post pics of my left handed S30V Military that's been taken to 20 inclusive bevel with a 30 inclusive microbevel, but unfortunately it's still sitting at my friend's house in D.C..

Here's a little something to keep you occupied waiting for yours to arrive :D

Millies are some of my favorites in the collection.

A lefty, righty and a Ti.

The Military is definitely one of my all time favorite knives. If I had the extra cash right now I would for sure grab the s90v sprint Military. Also if I had to chose I would take the Military over the Paramilitary even though I tend to lean toward smaller knives for EDC.The Military feels smaller in the pocket that it is.

All these have been posted before. But you asked for it, so .............................................

On the left is an original 1996 Two-Hole clip Military, purchased in 96. The other two were purchased in 12, a lefty and an all black right hand model. THe only complaint I ever had is I wish they had never changed the blade etching from the original design. Do not like the Golden Colorado Earth etch all that much. I've had a few chips in the CPM 440V blade, but nothing that drastically altered the blade outline after honing them out. Not had any problem with S30V as of yet.

I love my Millie! My favorite knife in general and for edc! I've been wanting the TI Millie and or a Carbon Fiber Millie for my collection.

Great choice. Big but doesn't feel like it. I've had my G10 serrated since 2006 and titanium less than a year. Would love to see the return of the CF Millie!

Out of all the knives I've owned over the last few years, the Millie is the best I've found!
