Just Ordered My First Spyderco - Military Owners, Post Pic's/Feedback

Not to be a party pooper, but I don't much like my Millie. The liner lock falls right where my forefinger goes and makes for an uncomfortable grip. I think it would be a great knife if it had the same lock as the PM2. I've thought about selling it, but it is hard for me to let go of a knife once I have it in hand. :)

I'm in the opposite camp: I like the Para2, but for me it would be perfect with the same lock as the Military... :D

Love the Millie, think I have 4 at the moment. Wish I had gotten a third CF one when the M390 was out, but I'll get by with the 2 others I have.

I don't mind the compression lock on the Para2 but prefer the liner lock like on the Millie.

My favorite manual Spyderco is the Bradley folder with a liner lock. It's a beast. The blade length is the same as the Para2 at 3.4 inches but it's actually a little smaller overall. However, at 5.5 ounces it's quite a bit heavier than the the Para2 at just 3.75 ounces. It's a superior folder for me since I don't mind the weight so much in cases where I carry it.

Para2 Specs:
length overall 8.281 " (210 mm)
blade length 3.438 " (87 mm)
blade steel CPM S30V
length closed 4.812 " (122 mm)
cutting edge 3.078 " (78 mm)
weight 3.75 oz. (106 g)
blade thickness .141 " (3.5 mm)
handle material G-10

Bradley Specs:
length overall 8.078 " (205 mm)
blade length 3.438 " (87 mm)
blade steel CPM M4
length closed 4.687 " (119 mm)
cutting edge 3.188 " (81 mm)
weight 5.5 oz. (155 g)
blade thickness 18/ " (3 mm)
handle material Carbon Fiber / G-10 Laminate

I just brought my Millie and ESEE-4 camping for the first time. I figured the ESEE would see the most use, in its native environment so to speak, but I kept coming back to the Millie with its superior slicing ability and pointier tip.

Yup, I used to pack different fixed blades around hiking/camping/backpacking, now my military is the only necessary blade to bring, I use it for everything.

Goodeysniper,

How does the M4 hold-up uncoated? I only have experience with coated M4 (and have had a tiny spot of rust form on the edge), do you keep it oiled/maintenance etc. etc..?

BTW, I’ve been wishing that BM would produce an uncoated M4 version for their M4 knife variants, still waiting… Your M4 millie looks great

I never oil or coat the blade, it has held up remarkably well for me. as long as you are okay with slight patina, discoloration, and the rare and slight peppering of red rust which removes in seconds.

like I said, this knife has seen years of wet work and being drenched in my sweat. I carry clipped inside my waistband, in the summer months at my old job, every time I pulled out my knife the blade was wet with sweat, the only time harmful rust formed was if it went unused for many hours while wet.

it is an extremely easy steel to upkeep compared to simple carbon steels. the few times I left it wet overnight it took maybe fifteen seconds to remove the very light rust which formed.

My "upkeep" is to wipe it off on jeans or a rag if it got wet before I put it away. I'll rinse and/or wash it if it got into anything sticky, but I do this with stainless steels too as I have found removing sticky stuff from a stainless blade is harder than removing rust from a carbon steel. so essentially my upkeep of carbon steels is no more difficult than upkeep in stainless steels.

The military is not my favorite knife but it sure is up there. The best parts are the size/weight ratio! It carries "light". It has a great blade shape and useful edge and its great with gloves on. It's my favorite camping knife, especially for food prep. You made a good choice.

Received my millie, damn this thing is a beast! :) I’m going to keep my PM II for EDC & work, and the millie for hunting/hiking, I finally found the perfect combo.

Thank’s, I’m always late to the ship.. Hopefully they’ll have some more future runs..
