Just received my XM-24, I guess there's no adjusting the pivot w/o the hinderer tool?

It happens when I disengage the lock bar, just at the beginning almost like something is grinding in between, sounds like nails on a chalk board. So this is normal? It doesn't bother me, it just sounds like its not normal or good for the knife.

Had the same thing on one of my slicers. Put a few drops of oil in the pivot and cycle it a few times. Or if your comfortable disassemble and clean it.

Hey guys, it's gotten worse. I know exactly what it is though. The pin hole on the ti side has a ball or something to prevent the blade rubbing the titanium. It's almost like its dried out or rusted. I haven't taken it apart because I'm afraid I'll mess something up. I guess some oil should fix it?!?

Too solid...I did not address this earlier because I felt that slightly loosing the pivot would fix any rubbing. Ok, do this... Loosen the pivot, apply lubrication (spray in WD40 if it's all you have laying around), retighten pivot to allow smooth flipping and you should be good to go.
Btw. You can easily take your XM apart. The pieces are large and robust. It is easy to see how it goes back together. Tips: remove the clip first to allow for easier disassembly because the knife will lay flatter. Also keep track of the little white nylon bushings. I keep mine in a small oil-filled cup while I clean everything before reassembly.

A ball or something? That is the detent ball, the detent ball along with the lock assists in holding the blade in the closed position. That detent ball is a high grade of stainless steel I believe, I doubt it is rusting in your new XM-24. At the worst, something got stuck between the ball and the blade.

I'd recommend flushing your knife out with some hot water (during which, you could relieve the lock pressure from the blade by pushing the lock outward to allow water to flush any debris out between the blade and ball), blowing the water out with some compressed air (or a blow dryer or whatever you might have) and then lightly lubricate the pivot.

After that, you might want to spend some time looking through some of posts in this forum to better familiarize yourself with your new XM (and/or Youtube or elsewhere on the Internet).

Did you buy this knife used?
I would check the washers.
Honestly, if pivot adjustment, cleaning and lubricating don't fix it for you...I would take it apart and put the time into a proper cleaning, lubricating and reassembly. I take my XMs apart every couple months, but maintain the blade and lubricate the pivot even more often.

I bought it lnib, never used just flipped etc. I dont think its a big deal, it may be normal and I am just being fussy, or the pivot is too tight.

Your selling it? I know you mention that you find it to be a bit heavy. Your knife to do with as you please but don't get rid of it just because your hearing a yet undiagnosed noise. Just my $.02 but really knives are fairly easy to fix when/if there is a problem. It ain't a BMW

We all tried to help, but this is most likely a simple issue of a knife that needs a little break-in or slight pivot adjustment. I see it's up for sale in the Canada sales thread. And I know you have a new 560, so that's all the assistance from me on this issue in this thread. No animosity, just value my time.

What a waste of time typing out help instructions to an a**hat that didn't say he was dumping the knife.

and...Roger.
I look at it this way, perhaps our words helped others.
Many read, few post. I lurked for over a year before ever joining the forums.
If he or anyone ever asks for assistance again, I'll try to help. I just hope it is appreciated. Nuff said...everyone have a pleasant evening.

Hey, am I invisible  That was the first line in my post, "Your selling it?"..... that's ok, I'll stand on a milk crate next time:)

Guys, I actaully sold it back to whom I bought the knife from. He shot me an email saying he regrets selling it. I was thinking of selling regardless as it was to big for me.

I appreciate the help, and allthough I didn't keep the knife I'll use this thread as reference if I ever have issues with a future XM. I am trying to get my hands on a smaller version, 3.5". It wasn't the issue that brought me to sell the knife!

Be gone you heretic!

Nahh seriously, if the 24 was a bit too large, then the XM-18 will be perfect. I handle the XM-24 with no problems but the XM-18 3.5" flipper is my EDC. :D
