just received poor example of custom 110

I'm surprised to hear that. My Ranger 112 from the Custom Shop is a jewel. Fit and finish were as close to perfect as I could wish. Buck's customer service is second to none, though, so send it back.

Well, guys, have a look:

From the Buck website

Warranty FAQ's
Will Buck pay to have my product sent to their facility?
Buck will not pay for the freight costs to their facility. However, Buck will pay for all return expenses to your residence or business for warranty services.

I recently had a minor issue with a Buck knife purchased from an online Buck dealer. I was emailed a return postage label and the knife was replaced immediately. There are some advantages to going back to your retailer as opposed to direct warranty with Buck. Unfortunately, that avenue is unavailable to direct factory orders.

Yes, this is the answer the way I understand it too. My thought is Buck should reimburse shipping to the factory for a period of time if the product is purchased directly from them and it is determined defective or substandard, as most dealers would do without question. If they don't do this, they should.

I don't like to get on Buck because I own many Buck knives and imperfections are few and far between. But, I won't bury my head in the sand either. Paying for a custom knife at full MSRP before adding customization to the price and then anticipating it's arrival for 4-6 weeks or more, it's really important that knife is perfect when it arrives. It's the face of the company at it's best to many customers. I have one custom shop knife, a 110. It arrived with a problem and I was upset. It sat in it's box for year before I paid to ship it for repair. I love it to death now and I would do it all again, but the experience did leave me scratching my head.

Return it to the store.
I went with another Buck knife.
I have no choice but that at that moment it seems that Buck had problems with the mail.
The return term in store expires.
A greeting

My stag AG rocker is like that. It has always bothered me but the stag on it was so nice when I got it and it was a gift I didn't want to send it in and have the stag ruined. :(

work looks real similar haebbie. so it appears this isn't uncommon for buck.

Bound and determined to make this a point.

Please take it up with Buck and not on here. People on here have hundreds if not thousands of Buck knives with hardly any issues at all. It's too bad you got one that isnt perfect. I'm sure they will take care of it. If your posting here do you want someone to take the knife in? I'm happy to do so and send pics of what it looks like before sending back to you.

thanks for your offer but i'll handle the situation one my own. last i checked this was a knife forum, and a brand specific subforum, i am discussing and commenting on relevant issues. there is no driving point on my end, you have shared your experience without grief, let us share ours.

No reason people shouldn't complain in public.

I don't mind an occasional mistake on the regular knives, but a Custom Shoppe knife should always be perfect.

Does the guy still have to put his NAME on a card with the knife? How could anybody make a crappy knife and then sign his name to the card that comes with it?

I, for one, am glad to hear about these things. A little publicity will force Buck to deal with the root problem more quickly.

Maybe pushing that Custom Shoppe staff a little too hard?

I would let buck know about it. Buck doesn't have to monitor this forum. We are just lucky a couple employees are on bere.

It's not like Las Vegas. What happens here does not stay here.

You can be sure that any report here of embarrassingly blatant incompetence will be the talk of the day at Buck.......from the water coolers to the top levels.

My concern would not be the bad publicity......my concern would be that the O.P. never produced any pics for us.

:)

But if this story is valid, Buck should definitely send him a sticker and pay shipping both ways.

Not if they don't see it. Take it to them. That will do the most good.

Unless I'm wrong, the guy DID talk to them and also talked here.

That's fair to everybody. I, for one, WANT to hear about the performance of a place where I may myself spend a few more dollars.

Hope we hear the rest of the story.

We are all fortunate there is a custom shop. I dont know of another manufacturer who offers this. A certain percentage of anything manufactured will be culled or of poor quality no matter how hard they try not to. It can't be helped.

It's more than obvious by anyone who sees how many beautiful buck knives are out there that they do a great job. This forum is barely a sliver of Buck product out there. If I come across strongly it's because I want to see this service continue on. It's unfortunate that a few knives don't make the grade but overall they do a fantastic job. One thing is 100 percent. They will make it right.

There is a video on you tube that this guy uses a buck bantam waaay over what it is designed to do. The knife fails and all he can do is rant, rant and rant on and on about it. The guy makes a fool out of himself on the video. That's fine to vent an opinion but there is over 35k views on that video. So the general public sees this and avoids the brand altogether. All because the guy uses a 20 dollar knife like pry bar and expects the knife to survive.

There isn't a 100 percent chance Buck will see this thread.

I'm sure it will be taken care of.

All true, but this is the CUSTOM SHOPPE we're talking about.

A true craftsman does his own quality control.......it's a CUSTOM SHOPPE, fer cryin' out loud.

Which is why I'd like to see pictures or some other verification that wrong has been done.

Everything I've ever gotten from the Custom Shoppe has been PERFECT.

This knife is not one of a thousand, but a custom. It should have been right from the get go. My customers expect me to do my work right the first time.

Just because Buck will fix it for free doesn't excuse problems out of the box with a custom premium product bought at full price.

He has a right to post here; it's not cool to stifle complaints unless you believe the flaws pointed out are not flaws and the person is being too picky...would you accept the knife as is?

No but would go thru the steps before posting dissatisfaction on a non buck site. If there was no resolution then fine. Post away.

I'm not saying it's OK for a knife to not be a good example. We all know they do a great job.

I would not accept it. I agree with that.

But nothing is perfect everytime.

What knife is this? The bolster look really thinned down. The wholetter knife looks like it had a lot of time on the polishing wheel removing material.
