Just saw this.....Bark River is no more?

His shoes are Chinese slippers made with slave labor.

But hey, after testing them, they are ‘just as good’ as MUSA Red Wings!
After a thorough inspection of my phone, which took place in my country of Italy, and adding a sticker to the back of my iPhone, it turns out it's actually made in Italy and not China!

Question. Every. Knife. It's like someone admitting to stealing a candy bar while they have a Santa gift size bag of items they stole behind their back.

This has been going on so long it's ridiculous. I remember dlt chiming into a thread like 7 years ago? About the wrong steel.

So if I try to sell the one Bark River and the one Blackjack I own nobody's gonna want them ? 🥺 🤣

Actually you might be surprised. I posted a couple of pictures to test the waters without saying they were for sale and actually had someone asking if I wanted to sell it. An older model but still.

I’ve haven’t bought anything Bark River in probably about 10 years, but have about 15 of their knives. I stopped buying due to price increase was beyond what I thought they were worth and what was quality issues that others had posted.

The deceit honestly is inexcusable.

Its going to take Jim a lot groveling to get his company off the ground, not sure a lot of people are lining up excited to buy from the Stewart name right now
Nah I'll pass. Not giving money to anyone associated with the Stewarts ever again. Also, let's not forget Jim was only second to Mike and he said absolutely nothing about the fraud going on behind the scenes.

Hmm. what of other models not listed - i.e., Clip Point Skinner?

Anyone remember the guy from years back who advertised being a knifemaker from the Charelston, SC area (vs. him appearing more to be a really nice handle shaper/attacher)? When matching up the styles and lengths of blades, he appeared to have acquired his blades from Jantz or some other company supplying near-finished Chinese blanks to the trade? Just add handles and an edge grind> He was the guy selling those fancy expensive Oyster knives and others, was written up in that hi-flutin' magazine Garden & Gun or whatever it was? Sold a "custom' knife to golfer Phil Mckelson? Alleged conduct swapping foreign blanks out for supposed all-USA made is disheartening to say the least.

To BRK - Contrasting the claim, it would appear older complaint of the use of Japan-sourced blanks was made, too, involving specific models.

The Ripoff Reports complaint in 2006 was that JAPANESE blank MX57 was used for the Clip Point Skinner, blanks as could be found from that time in the Sheffield Cutlery Knives catalog. MX56 = Copperhead, MX50B = Tanto, MX27 = Mini Skinner, MX24 Colonial Patch, MX17B = Southern Skinner, MX13GA = Nlackwater Bootknife. Admittedly, I've not heard of most of the models.

Today, I searched about blanks for the MX57 Sheffield naming convention and came up with a mixed set of MX-labeled blades that were imported along with another designation, some KT-designated blanks. These were all said to come from Sheffield's Co./building from someone claiming to be a direct source to acquire them (the buyer of the building when it shut down). The import paper info for the KT blanks, similarly packaged and labeled as those MX blanks, show they came from Mitsubishi Cutlery Seki Japan and claim they're made of AUS-6 (which is closely aligned with 440A).

The finished blade dimensions for the included image of BRK (it's a 2009 year Clip Point Skinner) is similar to the MX57 accounting for needing to grind down that uprising tip of the blank. See note below, however The ricasso/grind and the butt end seem kind of spot-on. Grind down the tip and handle areas to suit and I can imagine a close knife. Even the two handle holes seem right there where they should be. However, you'd need both the blank and knife to compare and need to take the handle off the BRK to check for the extraneous Japanese ricasso and top handle blank holes in it. That would be the test - take the handles off the BRK from that period (or today's) and check for those blank holes. (There's another post here in the thread that shows images of a blank handle ground down in-production and the extraneous hole isn't filled - of course why would they when hidden by handles). So as to this blank and this knife - it's a close maybe match?

I attach images of the ripoff report and the info re the Japanese blanks. And here some pictures including a 2009 BRK Clip Point Skinner sized Blade Length 3.75, overall length 8.5.
* I'll note, the overall lengths of either are touchy since looking at the two blades, it may seem you'd need to shorten the blank more than a .25" to make that BRK blade, and p0erhaps there's some other close grinding needed to get that BRK handle underbelly swep right. Perhaps one or both measured OL is inaccurate. Tough call.

I bring this up because it's distressing that an AUS-6 foreign blank may have been the base for an A2 knife. "May"- who knows on this model?

To test the claim dropped today, other than such admissions by BRK - someone needs to cut their handles off of some knives to check for them extra Japan holes...

Just how deep do the Bark River files go? I'm glad I never buy knives based off warranty. Makes you wonder how many other models are not what they appear and he simply hasn't been caught for those models.

Imagine he was just honest from the outset and said they couldn’t afford the U.S. steel costs, so they had to import cheaper options, but the knife is still assembled in the U.S. He still might be going under, but at least his kid would have had a chance at success.

Why do you think all the talk has been about Epstein? Now you know. Deflect, deflect, deflect. Word to the wise...watch yourself when you cross the street.

As a rule, I try to avoid direct contact with dumpster fires like this, especially when there’s an OBVIOUS case history that demonstrates suspicious behavior, if not downright criminal action. You don’t need to reach very far to see how many people he’s stolen from, lied to, or otherwise grifted or shafted, including people I know.

This phrase from his ‘apology’, however, got to me.

All were processed in our Shop by our Crew.
All of the handle materials were materials we currently use
All of them were etched just like all our models
All were inspected and boxed like all of our models.
By doing over 5 operations on each knife - they meet the criteria of Made in U.S.A
.”

As a maker, I personally go to great lengths to make US made products. I try to source everything I can from US companies, right down to steel, hardware such as handle bolts and pins, handle materials, adhesives and epoxy. It costs more. I take great pride in it. I don’t care how many coats of paint you apply to a foreign product, it’s still a foreign product, and NOT. MADE. HERE. FULL STOP.

Even if I try to overlook all the people he’s screwed over four or five decades, even if I question the motives of ‘protecting his people’, THIS one phrase tells me everything I could possibly ever need to know about him. And, for the record, I don’t believe for a single moment that this was a one-time deal of desperation. I think it’s highly likely that he’s pulled shit like this all along, and just this time got caught. He is, and always has been a despicable, lying piece of shit, and this action casts that in bronze, for me.

If anyone else doesn’t understand how this bullshit isn’t just ‘samey-same’, please have a professional flush out your headgear.

So Mike is flat broke, thought by taking all the blame (which he should) would make us feel for the guy and not be as mad, and now plans to evaporate into the world--- nope, the sheer level of con, lies, fraud, thievery should in my opinion earn him a jail sentence.
Just because you are broke and cant pay even if youre sued into non-existence shouldn't excuse you from the consequences

The nerve! Imagine using the same announcement for 1) admission of potentially criminal acts, while also 2) announcing a new business venture! It shows absolute disregard for justice or our intellect as consumers.
