All steels from every country is made from iron. Iron is sprayed all over the cosmos by the uncontrolled explosion of a type of Supernova. Since the principal ingredient of steel is of extraterrestrial origin, no steel can be claimed to be US made.

Flash forward 4.5 billion years. Almost all of the bone scales on the unquestionably USA made, corn fed, Yankee Doodle Dandy knives of the last century came from Argentinian cattle shin bones.

It's a murky world in the cutlery industry.

You mean no iron can be American made. Steel is made.

Like water doesn’t necessarily originate in the US but you can make soup in America.

Please. If that's really how you feel, I have a feeling this may not be the place for you.

U.S. by birth, naturalized citizens, and Resident Aliens are all legal under the laws of the United States. If you have a problem with any of that, not only is it off topic for this thread, I think you need to take it somewhere else.
Hold on. I was referencing an earlier comment that said that Mike Stewart was not his real name. Nothing about citizenship. Where'd that even come from?

Because you replied to this quote:

As long as you don't require proof that the maker himself (or herself) was made in the USA

The way your reply read, and what you replied to, seemed to give a different perspective. Anyway, I'm happy to take you at your word that it was simply a misunderstanding.

Going to put this thread on pause at this juncture based upon a decision made yesterday evening among staff.

What we would appreciate is for anyone with new and relevant information to contact either myself, knarfeng knarfeng or Boru13 Boru13 and provide a basis for reopening the thread. At that time we will open it back up for a limited period of time for that new information to be disseminated and discussed by our membership...after which it will be closed once more.

UPDATE:

One of our members provided me with an update copied from the Knives Ship Free site:

What about the remaining BRK models?
So far, a few independent tests have come back as genuine USA steel, and we're working on expanding this. From our remaining inventory, we have now tested Bark River blades using an XRF spectrometer. These tests have included A2, CPM-3V, MagnaCut, CPM-CruWear, and CPM-154 (from a different model than the list above). All of these tests have matched the correct alloy, and we'll continue updating this page when more details are available

The closed thread in General should have the links to other threads documenting BKT’s nefarious behavior in the Hall of Shame as a “permanent record”. As a record of the Stewart et. al. nefarious behavior it would also serve as a “buyer beware” function for the exchange.

What brands have you found to be most reliable qc and price to performance wise? Nowadays it looks like everything's being bought by some faceless firm outsourcing labor; everything just feels both cheaper yet more expensive than just 10 years ago.
Carothers, Busse Combat, Chris Reeve Knives and Arno Bernard...
There are others to be sure especially some cool custom makers but these examples come to mind quickly!

White River Knife and Tool is putting out some very nice blades at a good price point for quality users in great steels.

Behring Made - been satisfied w the early work (more camp bird trout hunting, nearly all convex ground) to more of the same today and the added heavy duty use and fight type knives. (various grinds now.) An old-school aesthetic but top materials and forged work by Jim and co. Tough to beat although prices did go up a little.

Nice to know he's still around.

Adding this video for those interested, which was provided by the OP, to further flesh out the depths of this issue.

The thread will continue to be locked and only reopened for any new or salient information.

This goes back to atleast 2006-2007, I know, I worked there then. It has always been away for them to make money quick, so they could fund a future project and pay the bills
Chances are if it’s a “limited edition” model, it’s from a prefab blank
I ground a lot of legit A2 and 52100 then to know most was legit
The stainless variants were always questionable are acted differently to be certain what they were
I’ve been blanks needing to be ground down so much, to try and keep the heat treat was impossible
After I saw the way things were going, bounced paychecks, being shorted on checks, the deceitful business practices etc I chose to leave
There’s a reason the company has changed names atleast three times since I was there
At one point I had over 70 BR knives that I had made, bought or had given to me
I don’t have any anymore for good reason

I’ve stayed out of the mess, away from it all for a long time
But to read the BS about certain ones not knowing till recent, or this is the first, and only 6 models, is all a complete lie
It’s been going on for 20 years (probably longer) and they ALL knew
