Just saw this new CSC Boy's Knife...

Has anyone called Knifeworks to ask why they have that message posted on their site?

Also, I hope the folks at Canal Street aren't cranky because they aren't happy to be making this year's forum knives.

"we lead a different lifestyle than others."

I would agree with this statement 100%..........Most of us buy lots of knives rather than just one every once in a while like normal people do.

Should make a knife maker happy I would think.:):):):)

Canal Street Cutlery is a small business, a fraction of the size of GEC, which itself is not big. Just about all the employees work on making knives. There is no "repair department" for example. I have been told that when a knife is returned for repair, the guy who worked making that knife is usually the one expected to fix it, but still has all his regular work to do.
Phone calls can take someone away from doing their work. A bunch of phone calls is very disruptive so it is understandable that frustration develops.
I think everyone at CSC works 'flat out' trying their best to make a fine knife & successful business. They deserve our support and understanding. Remember, these are Schrade USA people who instead of being defeated by the closure of Schrade, started their own company, Canal Street Cutlery, dedicated to making fine USA Traditional style knives.
How about making a CSC the next knife you buy.

Well said.
I've worked in tiny companies before. The frustration you describe is the reaction I would expect in such a situation of multiple phone calls about a bogus issue interrupting the work flow.

I've sent a query to Walter before. His answer was brusque, but my question was accurately answered. "Accurate information" is all I need.

That was my thought.

My reasoning for commenting was due to what seemed like a veiled rub towards us forum guys/alienating a big part of the knife buying group rather than myself being insulted solely.

My phone call went like this

I called up and asked the man politely whether they were closing since I had seen a remark on knifeworks and on the forums.

"If someone else brings that up again I’m going to punch them in the face."

I apologised several times for what I realised was a touchy subject and and tried to help him find the site page in particular since he couldn't find it and but he seemed readily pissed that it was posted and forum guys had started calling about it. (Which struck me as odd considering this only puts their name on the map in media and us calling solidifies concern we have for a knife company that was 'supposedly closing.')

I told him I would write on the forum to clarify that they were under no means closing down.

He then felt it necessary to mention that "us forum guys are frustrating as hell."
'I don't get you all' and that "we lead a different lifestyle than others."
(I'm not sure what that was supposed to imply) #knifelife

I'm a big fan of the ka bar coppersmith line and my statement saying I wouldn't buy another CSC may have been rather exaggerated.

Those 'frustrating forum guys' just bought 300+ knives from his company. Must be frustrating lol.

Or _____ We should be grateful for all the attention to detail and real care that CSC people put into the knife that many of us will soon receive.
Give the guy a break ! It's not necessary to take something like this minor exchange personally. When it is not taken personally, it's just the other guy being himself and then your knickers aren't in a twist.

I kind of think that exchange was hilarious. I would love to meet Wally one day.

Back on topic, I like their boys knife and I prefer the engraved bolster but I would have preferred a different color G10 or doing it on the layered carbon fiber/G10 would have looked awesome

I opened this thread a few days ago and really dug the look; just checked it again and all the hubbub about phone calls doesn't really sway my opinion at all. That coin shield does though. Ruins the knife for me, which is a shame.

I hope you are right.

On the other hand, I think the owner's 'brusqueness' / bile, whatever you want to call it, would be better directed at a knife outlet making statements about his business rather than forum members/the general public, making a polite enquiry. I don't believe you should be rude and boorish to anybody unless they have done the same to you first. Being angered by, forum guys being as frustrating as hell, and wanting to punch the next person who brings his up is deeply unimpressive. His company needs knife enthusiasts and it is in the process of making and delivering the current Forum Knife. Courtesy is revealing, rather essential if a new product release is to prosper.

Regards, Will

If it was Mr. Gardiner who answered the phone, his comments could lead one to think that maybe he was talked into something (The forum Knife) that he was not particularly interested in doing.

I think this thread needs to get back to the knife discussion. If someone wants to discuss the "phone calls" any further, please take it to FEEDBACK: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly!.

Edited to add: I'd think twice about making statements without also presenting proof to back them up.

Mine was merely a hypothesis, based on the conversation. Not meant to be a statement of fact.

...and am seriously considering getting one. It's a little small at just under 3.5 inches, but I like the idea of stainless and G10 on a traditional knife. Anyone own one of these? I have a few GECs but nothing from Canal Street. I'd really like to find a CSC barlow with the Jade scales, but that seems to be a lost cause. :)

I really like this little critter. I'm not a huge fan of their round shield and would prefer the engraved bolster.

So...was this jade one really made?

I can kinda see why they moved the shield to the covers instead of the bolster. The engraving looks too big for that smaller bolster.

good looking knife regardless.

Yes, it was made....they are pretty hard to find these days. They also made it in the half moon trapper, trapper, and pinch.

Got my CSC Boy's Knife in zebra wood today. Very pleased with it. Pull is around a 5 1/2 to 6, walk & talk is good with no half stop. Edge bevel are even and shaving sharp out of the box. Only a slight bit of light seen between the liner at one spot, no proud pins. About the only fault I found is a slight (2mm or so) scuff on the shield side bolster. Betting I could polish that out, but as I'll just end up adding my own as I carry it, no worries.
