Serrations are a heated topic. Seems people love them or hate them. I personally see their place but I can't imagine most people have much need for them. Maybe if you cut a lot of heavy rope, but even your typical working lines up to maybe 1/2 inch diameter have never given me a problem with a good, sharp knife (plus, if you know you deal with that stuff a lot, leave a coarser finish on your plain edge).
