... chisel vs V-ground in an application such as this?

Chisel ground axes are for log shaping, they allow the axe to work very close to the face, used origionally for timber shaping before saws, on a general purpose axe no one uses them. Similar for knives, same principle, same conclusion.

Thanks Cliff...that is useful.

Jeff Clark has noted some durability uses with chisel ground edges on knives which you may want to check out, specifically light bone work with small knives to check edge durability.

I understand there are some advantages to a chisel ground edge, but I just can't stand them. Maybe it's just me...

...I guess this is all academic until I can get JEB to respond...
Eureka!!! Well, I think I scored. I just received a phone call from Oz with regards to my requests. I found out that JEB is having quite a few problems with their business logistics.

1. First, Their computers are still down
2. Two, they have had a great deal of difficulty obtaing metal stocks
3. There are some social/community logistics inhibiting their production...I guess knife ownership laws are different in Oz.

Anyways, They called me by phone on their dime at around 07:00 their time! I will be faxing them my design. Wish me luck.

For those interested, It seems like the standard JUST runs around $120 shipped to the USA. I do not know what it costs elsewhere and this price does fluctuate depending on the exchange rate. I am sure I will get a set price in US dollars once they review my request.

Just an update:
1. I spoke with them...one day...11-29-2005, 03:30 PM (they seemed genuinely interested).
2. I sent my drawings to them
3. Their email seems to still "not work"
4. For some reason, I can no longer make long distance calls to them. I either receive a "all circuits are busy" message or "your call cannot be connected" message. My long distance carrier says I have "been blocked" by "a party" in Australia from making calls.

So, I guess I am out of luck.:grumpy:

Hello All,

I just posted the message below in "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly"...forum.

I STRONGLY recommend that you save yourself grief and DO NOT DEAL WITH JENSEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JENSEN STRIKES AGAIN!!!!!

Just received an email today from a US Special Forces Operative working in Afghanistan.

At the start of the year he placed an order for 8 of Jensen's knives.

Being in the "front line" Jensen promised him a delivery date of no more than 2 months.

It is now the end of the year...........and Jensen has not returned ANY emails etc etc etc (the usual story)

I find this idiot (Jensen) unbelievable in that he takes $$$ for 8....EIGHT knives with a promised delivery of 2 months..........nearly a year later......no sight of even one...........and no correspondence whatsoever.

I'm particularly steamed about this one as these guys are "front line" and do need these knives.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
