I wanted to thank you for illustrating just how cheesy the customer service of Schrade (Taylor) has been. I see no indication of any future change in their business practices.

They will get no more of my money, at any time whatsoever.

Well I highly doubt it'll make even the slightest difference to them. You gotta give them time to get their factories up and running efficiently. Taylor Brand has nearly single handedly kept many patterns alive that had been discontinued for over 20 years.

Give em time the quality and QC has got to get better, I got a Rough Rider Gunstock Stockman delivered for less than the price of a matinee at the movies, can't beat that. Taylor Brands if they're smart will improve with time, just be happy that they're bringing back all the old patterns...

Take it from someone who owns a few, they have improved. I have two Schrades still in my collection that are USA made. The new ones are every bit as good, with new more modern to match the times designs.

To the OP, here is the warranty info provided with their knives. If he would have read it they would not have even called to find out. Written pretty plain and easy to understand to me.

Soooo their warranty sucks. Good to know. Id rather get called an idiot by ESSE and get a new knife.

It also seems that they may have some issues with the heat treat they use. If a knot in a piece of wood would cause that type of damage then it might be best to avoid them.

Someone bumped up a 5 month old thread, it gets locked, so you feel the need to start another about the topic ????

Take it to the GB&U if you must, but it doesn't belong here.

quit your crying, im glad schrade denying warranty over coating being removed rubs others the wrong way and turns away potential customers.

But ken does have a point it might be better placed in the GBU...

Not crying at all. I just wish people here knew(most all do) what room to post what in.
This causes extra work for the Mods when they have to move GB&U threads out of General.

i get you, but you come off rather abrasive over it... chill out a little. We all share the hobby no need for the buttheadedness although we all have bad days.

Sorry, I just don't see how hitting a knot in moderate use constitutes abusing the tool. Perhaps it is about removing the blade's coating. I don't abuse my knives, but striking a knot and breaking a blade? A simple replacement of a relatively cheap knife would be a "drop in the bucket" in comparison to the good will that would be generated.

"Bad news travels like wildfire, good news travels slowly". Good will is cheap, but a bad reputaion hangs around like a raging fungus, and s nearly ompossible to be rid of.

you're right :foot: im chillin now:cool: on topic it is, removing the coating should'nt void the warranty of the knife unless removed with such tools a grinder or blow torch which should be easily discernible from coatings removed with sand paper and elbow grease.
And you're telling me to chill :p:D

Let's keep this on topic now that the Mods have moved it to the correct forum

7cr17Mov steel that's been poorly heat-treated. (440A equvalent). The Schrade/Imperial/Old Timer steel is all the same stock. I do have some Imperial knives made of the same steel. The edge-holding capabilities of this steel is marginal at best.

If you want to buy any of Taylor Brands knives, be advised, cavat emptor! Buyer beware.

You must be one of them special Esee customers. The knife that had a warranty voiding finish removal is not made from 7cr17mov, neither are any of the ones I own. Maybe you should better qualify your statement.

And it's back in the General forum again, and with a new topic merged into it, lol.

What just happened :confused::p:D

Yup its 9cr something and their warranty still sucks.

So does the Esee warranty. They will give an idiot a new knife but if you take care of it and wear it out, their warranty don't cover you. That sucks. At least Schrade has the balls to say no to idiots.
