JustinP and the Schrade with the broken blade.

"Wear it out" like sharpen every day for 40 years, Ill take that. Throw the knife at a pile of rocks and break it, warrantied but call me an idiot? Ill take it. Batton it through a lawn mower deck like a bk2, and get respect from Ethan Becker himself? Sold.

"We made the blade way brittle but weasel our way out" sucks. No sale, no way no how. CRKT has a MUCH better warranty and customer service. BUSSE, ESSE, Becker, White River, freakin SOG, Buck, Ontario with freakin $8 old hick knives back their product up better! I was looking at that damn knife in the part serrated 1095 version and am glad I went with the Mtech instead now. MTECH!

It looks to me like some people have very unreasonable expectations. Like wearing out a pair of shoes, over the course of years, the company should give you new shoes? Wow. Can I safely deduce then that when I finish drinking a can of Pepsi, they should give me another free one to replace the "used" and now empty can for all eternity?

No, Rev. I don't think I have unreaasonable expectations. I do, however, think that when a knife blade strikes a knot in a piece of reasonably soft wood and it breaks, they should replace the blade/knife at their discretion. The buyer should also take into account the proclivity of the Chinese to be rather lax in the heat tretment of their knives. This s why they tend to cost quite a bit less than American/Taiwanese blades. While the Taiwanese aren't perfect, they tend to have a bit better quality control.

This is why I'm not too enthusiastic about a lot of Chinese cutlery. Poor QC seems to be a nasty little gremlin that rears it's ugly head all too frequently.

Schrade was a terrific company for many years and was a big part of American knife history... They made a great product and sold them at very reasonable prices.

The Taylor Schrade company is nothing like the real Schrade. IMHO, as sad as it was when they closed, I would have rather they left it dead instead of resurrecting the name, and making products overseas that are not of the same quality as the originals... I know the new company offers patterns that were not available from the original Schrade, but you can still buy original made in the USA Schrades very reasonably, and you get to experience the quality of the products that made them famous.

As always, YMMV...

I'm trying my best to stay out of these thread's...

As a very experienced carpenter, whose worked with practically every species of wood (including exotics); even some of the softer varieties of wood, have knot's that are as dense as rock.

I by no means, am inferring that the steel on your blade isn't inferior, however the next time that you feel the need to test a knife, you might want to avoid the knot's! ;)

So does the Esee warranty. They will give an idiot a new knife but if you take care of it and wear it out, their warranty don't cover you. That sucks. At least Schrade has the balls to say no to idiots.

The flaw in this logic is almost unprecedented.
