Just an FYI to anyone thats thinking of buying a K&M matchcase. Up until now they were using a suunto compass and thats what they are advertising on their website. There is a note at the top of the main page saying update as of december 2010 and they relay that they are unable to get anymore suunto compases from suunto. It said they wil fill orders as long as they can until they run out. Well i didn't see the notice until after i had placed my order. The notice was placed on dec 7th and i just happened to have placed my order on that same day. Well i figured since they just posted it that same day i might have a chance at getting the suunto compass rather than the substitute made in china one they were going to switch to since it was their only option. Well i wasn't interested in the made in china compass so i wrote them an email asking them if the 2 matchcases i ordered were going to ship with suunto compases. I got a quick reply (they are known for great customer service so it was no surprise) and they said they were out and the ones with china compases were shipping out in a week or two due to delays in filling orders and they would write a check for $3 rebate on each to make up for lack of suunto compass. I thought that was interesting that they posted that they were going to ship suuntos until they ran out, but the same day they posted that, they were already out......
Well i replied back the same day that i wasn't interested in the made in china one and please cancel my order. I didn't hear back, and waited a week and still no reply and no credit to my credit card. I wrote them another email attaching my original reply asking to cancel my order. I still got no reply and another week went by and the matchcases i cancelled showed up with made in china compases and a check for $6. The total dolar amount isn't a big deal (after the credit check i'm into a regular and long for 40 bucks) and a handmade watertight matchcase is always good to have i guess. What i don't like is all the information on their website says suunto compass equiped except for a note at the top you need to click on to get the update on their source drying up. I reached them by email and after one contact asked to cancel my order which was then ignored and shipped anyway.
This is my first and only venting on the situation. I don't want to get into a debate with keith or go through the hassel of sending them back so i'll just keep them i guess. I just wanted to give anyone else that was thinking of ordering one of their matchcases a heads up on their current situation.
I hope they come up with a quality compass in the future so they can stand behind their product like i've heard so much about and not have to resort to bait and switch internet sales games. I hope the compass at least works and I don't get lead poisoning.
