Ka-Bar Black Cutlass Machete or Kershaw Camp 10?

I have it too. When I first bought it, I hated the wood handle. I pretty much just dumped it in my accumulation (no use stuff). Finally decided to just sand the handle and if I messed it up, I'd send it back to my no use pile. Well, it turned out great and it is pretty comfortable to use now. It is a very effective cutting tool.

I'd swear that mine is 1075? Black painted blade.... most of the 420's aren't painted as I recall.

Did somewhat the same thing. Sanded the wood handle down as much as I could, then wrapped it in grip tape. Ugly, but it works.

After looking at those pics and the amount of brush, definitely go for the lightest, longest quality machete you can find. An axe/hatchet will take care of the thicker trunks. However, if you are like me and just looking for an excuse to get a new toy to play with- give the BK9 a shot. I don't have one yet, but everyone raves about them and they seem to be about the lightest chopper I have found.

Based on the pics you posted I definitely agree with a basic machete suggestions.

However, we can't always be practical. I vote for a Kabar Zomstro only because I just got mine in the mail yesterday and I don't want to be the only one with one. No field work with it yet but it dismantles cardboard boxes and slices two potatoes at a time like nothing :p

Oh,the BK9 was always on the Short List of Buy Soons anyways,so no worries there :p

LOL :p:thumbup:

By the way, be careful on that link I sent you (FortyTwoBlades' site), because are gonna go there and only want this thing....

F. Dick Beef Splitter

Ain't that the truth! That monster is just too cool for school. :D :D :D I honestly expected it to feel like a sledge hammer, but it's more like an extra heavy racing axe. The balance point is just a little above the top of the handle, so when your hand is there it spins like a dervish with little energy. :D

Yeah the company has an unfortunate name, but they've been around since the 1700's so I don't think they're changing it now. :D They make top notch stuff, though. I always tell folks that the only folks that snicker at the name are people that haven't experienced their knives and tools firsthand. Their industrial lines are higher quality than Victorinox/Forschner in my experience.:thumbup:

LOL,I have lots of stuff I have absoluetly no use for too,LOL,but still love having em :p

And thanks for the order! Will be doing the work on it tonight and it'll go out first thing on the morrow. :)

You're very welcome,my friend, and thanks for the service you provide to us junkies :) He spoke very highly of you in private (as well as in this thread). This order will be the first of more coming as the budget of a disabled Vet allows (which ain't much,LOL,but it's consistant anyways :p ) :)

Awesome-got the BK9 I was wanting to get "sometime in the forsee-able future" for Christmas :D Now when the Tram gets here (assuming it's not so cold out as to set old injuries to ailing),I can have at it

I got a Kershaw camp 18 for xmas. Really disappointed in the sheath. I thought there was finally a machete option with a winning sheath..boy was I wrong. Total fail.

Sheath is way sloppy. Really kills the deal. They should have put more thought into it. Bummer.

Yeah the sheath is nice in concept, but poor in fit. I think they hit so close to and yet so far from the mark in multiple areas with it that it's kind of painful. :o

Got it in today (haven't had much op to grok it yet, long busy "after Christmas running" all day,LOL :p),packaged nice and safe, looks great,I'll get a pic of it tomorrow (as well as swack some briars outta the way,at least around the edge, dang thing tries to poke my eyeball out every night when walking the dog,LOL),very happy with it :D

Glad you're liking it so far! The fun'll really start once you get out and about with it! :D:thumbup:

Yup,worked nicely,in less than 20 minutes (between the Tramontina and also new BK9 for the 2"-5" small trees/etc),cleared out a nice pathway up to the top, around and back down the other side :D
