This forum is way cool, EVERYBODY is helpful and friendly.
BluesStringer, I often fantasize about about buying a few acres somewhere nice and peaceful.... One day I want to hike at least a part of the Appalachian Trail and check out your neck of the woods. I agree w/ you about voting w/ your feet/wallet!
Brother Junglas, I used to fantasize about such things too. Now I plan. I used to fantasize about being able to take care of myself if the SHTF. After weeks spent in relief efforts in the aftermath of Katrina, and the 'nado swarm of 4/27/11, I now know that I am prepared to face such troubles.
I came to a realization a long time ago. The only freedom a man has is that which he takes for himself. No one is giving freedom away. There are no merchants of freedom, you can't buy it. There are no imaginary lines on a map that will provide you freedom on one side, and enslave you on the other. Only a slave fantasizes about freedom. A free man takes it. At any cost.
Freedom is like a muscle; it atrophies in the lack of use. Use it or lose it Bro. Exercise both your muscles and your freedom and walk away. Starve the beast, for surely you know that the beast feeds at the trough of your acquiescence to its authority.
Don't fantasize about being free, Bro, just BE free. Anything you can imagine as a manifestation of freedom, you can have. And a few acres to live your days on as you please is not something that requires much imagination to acquire. It just requires a plan, preparation to implement that plan and the will to see it through.
