Here's a pic of my Marine Ka-bar which I gave a makeover. I inherited this knife from my dad. The original leather washer handle had some rotted out washers because they'd suffered water damage when his roof leaked! I could have restored it to original but I decided on a new look. The guard is 3/16" 416 stainless. One of the complaints of the original Ka-bars is that the steel guards are too thin and easily bend. The grips are a red and black diamondwood laminate. The pommel is 304L stainless. I cut a groove in the rear of the tang and had a 10-32 screw welded in to hold the pommel in place. The sheath was made by my sheath and holster maker Mike McGehee.
Not sure if it didn't post the first time or if it disappeared, but here's all the pics I have of it.
I just like having the tip in line with the handle, feels like I have more control.
My one and only.
Bought it as a teen after reading an article in one of the mags (Fighting Knives?) about modifying the handle for comfort.
Had to have one for camping...
Great first post Jeremiah! That big brother looks awesome stripped! Welcome to the forums. Very nice pics, I've always wanted to check out a big brother but haven't had an opportunity to. It looks to be serving you well.
Be sure to pop in over at the Becker Knife and Tool forum. They are made by Ka-Bar as well and most of us hang out over there.
