KA-BAR Proud to Unveil new Ek Commando Knife Co.

I need to get one of those in my grubby paws. I love stabby things and that looks danged near perfect.

this probably would not be on my radar, didn't see it at Blade, and likely would be a while before i did

having seen it though, damn, i'd buy one, or two, even though they are not my style...

yeah, it's REALLY NICE

also, stabby :D

i went around the night i got it trimming black birch - smells like rootbeer :D whisk whisk whisk, chops. pried with it. thick. works good.

Well, I've been waiting to see what the Ek it was going to look like!
It makes me wanna cry, and not with joy. That thing leaves me cold, I hate to be the pisser on the fire here, but just Yuch!
At best, it's a kit knife. Throw away the scales, fix the hilt, re-profile the blade. hide that sheath from sight. Ah, I'll have JK build me one instead.
Sorry, but don't like it. :thumbdn:

can you be more specific? :D

i like the blade a lot.

the sheath is so so, consider it a storage solution until you buy ultimate kydex/leather/woo-hoo

but the blade. wow. it's pretty nice.

if you haven't actually handled one, well, ..., it's ALIVE. it has a great feel. lovely.

i've talked to people who've owned a lot of this style over the years, and they like this one.

go figure :D

Would have liked a slightly convex grind as apposed to the double saber, but I realize that that is difficult for a factory production knife to achieve. A man could make it that way with a little time and effort if a man was to want it that way. My main problem is with those scales, they look cheap and plastic y. But keep in mind that I also don't own any synthetic stock firearms, so I am a dinosaur. I found it interesting that in the video they show the original rock maple scales and the lead rivets but then what..... I think that if they came out with a USMC with those scales the screaming would be heard around the world. I have not handled the new Kabar Ek but will eventually and perhaps I won't want to put it down! Have you ever handled an ORIGINAL,LEAD RIVET EK? Did you not find that to be alive in the hand? Maybe it will grow on me, but I did wait a few days to post on this issue

I had considered getting one then softening the bevels a little to make the transitions semi-convex and it would be pretty simple to make some walnut scales and reuse the hardware -- or attach them with copper rivets & burrs if you want a more classic look.

Yes, as I said, it would be a Kit and you throw away most of the parts! I think I'll just order one of those new BLUE Dozier folding Hunters and call it a day! Never had a blue knife.

:D
works.
i picked up a venom gren and an orange dozier folder at blade -- there's a tan handled one in one of my minimalist kits.

fine fine :)

actually they seem SLIGHTLY hollowground to me.

convex would be trivial.

i'm pretty sure i can hammer cinder blocks into cinders with the hilt, and it won't fail. i'm assuming glass filled nylon material. it won't rot, it's VERY tough, and it has great grip. it's not cheap.

want wood? wait a month. someone will do that.

better yet, try one. it does not feel cheap in the hand.

it feels unstoppable.

let me restate: if you don't handle one, you can only armchair on this debate

it's SOLID feeling.

also, if if you haven't seen the pix by trade, it does feather sticks

it CHOPS

i did a lot of brush mutilation

it's amazing

weird, i feel personally challenged here :D

here is a 3.5 inch WELL seasoned red oak limb...

it's past 11pm here, and i posted as fast as my "drunken ass" could go

with no practice, in the dark with a flashlight, this...

probably with some coordination, good light, and technique, i could go faster

no hot spot, fantastic retention. no deflections or misstrikes

key thing: it could still easily draw slice printer paper

9 strokes on my kitchen knife stone, just for lols, and it's SMOOTH as butter on the cutting

your mileage may vary, but this knife, is good as is

want to "improve it"? go ahead :D

i also used steel fencing as a fulcrum to pry cut some branches last night. no effect noticed after a quick "steeling" on the wire, and a random "river stone" for 10 seconds.

No doubt the knife is super functional. I never disputed that idea. A wonderful user no doubt! Ugly girls can be wonderful lovers....but they are still ugly. The original early Ek's were not pretty but after 75 years, they can grow on you. Thanks for the pics.

I hope you get a chance to hold one and look it over in person. It'll be like closing time at the watering hole. "You know, it's really not too bad..it's so ugly, it's cute." :D

The handles are SOLID and Bladite hit the nail on the head. This thing feels "alive". It's a badass knife.

I found out this morning that Ka-Bar will not ship these to California.

Its not illegal yet!

The price seems reasonable from what i've seen online. This version is a throw back to the old old EKs hopefully the models to come mirror the later generations in terms of grind and guard angle/size.It doesn't bother me at all that the guard isn't brass and i do love the steel choice! I'll definitely buy a m5 style when it comes out. Heck give me a few weeks and i'll probably end up buying one of this version anyway, lol.

It showed up can't really mess with it right now but a couple of things I noticed right away. The handle seems a little narrower than the original I used to have the blade also seems a little wider than I remember. But that just be old age messing with me and I have no problem with it the sheath is a definite improvement over the old leather and velcro one I had.
