KA-BAR Short Black or KA-BAR Kraton Handled Mark I ?

The MK1 is a reintroduction of the standardized 5" blade utility knife produced by many companies for the US Navy during WW2. They were in constant usage up through the Viet Nam conflict. The MK1 is based on various 5" hunting knives of the 1930s.

Yeah, notice that.
It's juat that there's this picture of both knives laid for comparison

And fyi, the current ka-bar usn1 is not an exact replica of the ww2 usn mk1

Its a step up from the historic model.
Perhaps even better suited for the times.

As far as I can tell, the blades look no different from the Mark 1 first issued in 1943. (I have a new Colonial Mark 1, and it came in a box with the original Government order and specification numbers). As I look back at the knives issued during WWII, they were just about the same.

Mark 1 is WW2. Government contracts were canceled in August of 1945, no more contracts ever issued for them. The Mark1's were in Navy supply for decades and many new old stock knives were still being issued during Vietnam. Old supplies of un-issued Mark 1's have come to the commercial market place even in this 21st century.

WW2 U.S. Navy UDT team. These guys had first choice of whatever equipment they wanted. The one standing second from the far left liked the MK1.

That could have been a picture of my father's outfit, (but it wasn't). Those men "kicked @$$" and took names daily!

He died when I was 20.

By thunder, the Mark 1 WORKED! No one had to mock up a "new" blade. A "tried and proven" type of knife that worked in the field and on the farm long before WWII. (In the early 1930's, to be more precise).

I like Mark1, GIRLYmann
Yes, I had just decided to make my choice on the Mark1 but I will have to wait around 1 month.
As your people said in this forum that Mk1 can be very much useful and also we can use it in killing, so
I think Mark1 is a good choice. Thankyou! :thumbup::thumbup:

As it would sound, had it been recorded in an edition of the newsreel "The March Of Time"... The US Navy Mark 1 Utility/Fighting Deck Knife, defeating the enemy since 1943! It always has been, and still is, an effective battle implement.

Stay sharp, my friends.

Let's just say - to save lives!
To the stellar wartime service by the mk1
No matter the brand...
Ka-bar was there too,

You will not regret your choice, my freind.

Consider this, when you walk into the courtroom, charged with the use of a deadly weapon in the defense of you life the apearance of the Mark 1 is not intimidating. (It doesn't look as if it's designed as an "offensive weapon"). The defense attorney in the case will find it difficult to use the knife's looks to incriminate you. (Believe me, he/she will do their best to "demonize" the instrument used to dispatch the miscreant). It is a psychological ploy employed to produce sympathy for the scroat(s).The Mark 1 looks like an ordinary hunting knife, instead of a dagger. It has, however, aquitted itself in battle so many times that the bodies to its credit tell a different story.

It's a sleeper. The unsuspecting bad guy will not see it coming... untill its too late.

To captain O, you're right but for my country ,Mark1 will look not look like ordinary hunting knife. We can only carry knife when we go into the forest. There is no forest around
where I lived so I can't say that I carried MK1 for hunting when I'm in the court. So how Mark1 look like won't help me through the court but it can help me through
the attacker.

Some words of wisdom for you, my friend...stay sharp, train regularly. This is how you prepare for an armed confrontation. It isn't the knife that counts as much as the training of the man using it.

Captain O... out.

Best weapon you got? The one between your ears.

Anything can be an effective weapon if the mindset is up to the challenge.

Train, and learn how to use it, then hope not to.

In the modern world, never bring a knife to a gun fight, and if you have no other choice, the use guile, cover, concealment, and an "I want to live mentality".

After that, it's out of our control.

Stealth, concealment, surprise, and ferocious. Use them all.

Always cheat, always win.- Clint Smith

Armed Preemptive action
against an unarmed assailant
May have adverse consequences
Than desired.
Just be really sure if such drastic action
By drawing a weapon
is absolutely necessary
for life or self preservation.
Turning a heated argument into a brawl is silly.
Making rational snap decisions can buy time
Despite all the hope in the world,
We have but only the present life to live.
Bringing it on with a full armed confrontation
is always the absolute last resort.
Just how that turns out for all concerned parties,
Is anyone's guess.
This site has been around for ages
And if you're not familiar with it
It makes for some light reading
Entertaining for some
Enlightening for others.
There are two sides to a coin.
May we never
Have to pick sides
In madness...
