Ka-bar usmc actual size or a lie?

I weighed my Quarter Pounder today; and it wasn't! This is either an epidemic or a conspiracy. Just hope my girlfriend doesn't out that what I've been marketing as 8" is really only 7 7/8".

... and while you fools, fools, FOOLS, I say, have been nattering on about defective rebars, OK, Ka-Bars, well, maybe candy bars ... uhhh, where, ummm ... what ??? the enemy is slipping up on us unawares !!!

Furthermore, I am reliably informed by the forum software, that This thread has more than 20 replies. Now what are we going to do? Send the d*mn knife back and let Ka-Bar deal with it. Maybe they can make a toothpick with the excess and stick it in the handle.

Methinks it's not the young fellow's hands which are too small.

The kabar is supposed to be 12". They sell them as 11 7/8" so no one complains when when QC fails and lets a mistake through.

Oh, wait! Was that a serious answer!?

Oh, wait! Oh, wait! Measure it again, again, again! I think the ruler may have slipped. Are you sure your hand wasn't sweating in excitement at SUCH A BIG BLADE ??? You know what they say about boys who like big blades.

Why don't some of you wise up and take the question serious. One of the reasons why the blade might not be 3/16 inch thick is due to where you measured the thickness at. Where did you measure the thickness from? The length issue might be due manufacturing variances or quality control issues. If you have small hands you might want want to look into getting another knife......

measured it right by the upper guard. As far as the overall length goes, I recently spoke to Ka-bar representative and I'll have it exchanged for the actual size model and that's good enough for me. Just too bad it's the 1st and last.

First off, SolarWinds, welcome to the forums. Yes, we poked a little fun, and yes, we should have ended our posts with a serious answer. It's just that it sounded like such a minor deal. I bought my father-in-law a reproduction Ka-bar, made on the original milling machines, faithful to the original design in a period box with an enclosed history of the knife. He loved it; he is a retired Marine, he fought all over the Pacific rim and into China. Due to the over stressed supplies during war time, he never was issued a Ka-bar and had to borrow one when needed. He was touched.

Honestly, the knife had a few dings, after all, it was manufactured to war time tolerances. That's the charm of that knife.

If these things bother you--and to some people this is a big deal--I suggest you look for early Microtechs, Woodards and Striders. All have excellent warranties for being "right off the rack" knife companies. Obviously, there are other great companies, these are the ones that I thought of quickly.

Personally I like the 'no BS' policies of places like Strider and Dillon Precision. I understand that sh!t happens, even an accident in shipping. I like places that quickly respond to my concerns with good customer service.

Welcome to BF. By the way, posting something that makes you sound dumber than a fart is a really painful way to make a BFC entrance.
But do not take it to heart, we are a great, friendly, and very helpful group. Let me tell you a short story:

I was walking down the street when a group of Teenagers approached. As one got close to me, maybe one foot [could have been 13 inches, or maybe 11 7/8] he whipped out a K-Bar and sliced my left bicep. I was forced to draw my .45 caliber [well maybe it was a .44 and 9/10 caliber] and fired one round striking the teenager one inch above his heart [or was it 6/7 of an inch, I forget]

WELL, anyway the Police arrived and took measurements and found that at the point I shot, the teenager was 11.9 inches from me and therefore I was NOT within range of the blade [so says the K-Bar website]. I had to hire a lawyer and a knife expert who measured the knife in question and LUCKILY it measured 11 and 7/8 inches. THANK THE LORD!!!!

After surgery, I need to go thru physcial Therapy in hopes of regaining use of my left arm.

ENJOY BF and this is a True story!!!!............Ira

Wow. You poor guy.

This kid I knew in high school who was so intent on making sure that no-one took him for a fool that when he went shopping for a car, he grilled the salesman about the turning radius and whether the gearshift was likely to be sticky.

We all laughed, but it was still kind of sad.

I understand that the kid you mentioned is actually your boyfriend and you both suffer from genital shrinkage, try harder next time.

Wow, that was witty. First you ask a dumbass question, and then you get mad when someone points out your own assholitude:rolleyes:.

Please put your helmet back on, and hop back on the short bus. You're not fit to play here.

camel, pilot, Solarwinds ... what happened, did the Troll Academy just graduate a new class of losers? (If it wasn't for LOW CLASS, they'd have NO CLASS at all!)

Ira!! Good thing it was a Ka-Bar that sliced you and not a CiViLiaN !! I'm sorry to hear you have such a poor working relationship with your local police. Must be the life you led, always hanging around the criminal element ;)
