i'm looking for a sort of all round hunting knife and came across the buck 119 special and kabar marine hunter. It will not be put through hard use, just light camp chores, also the kabar is quite cheaper in price.Which of the knives would be the best to buy?

I'd go with the Buck 119.

Both knives you are looking at have blades made of similar alloys. But Buck hardens theirs to a 57-59, while Taiwan-made KaBars are only 55-57. So the Buck will hold an edge better.

I like the Pathfinder better than the 119 because I find the shape more useful.
I like being able to put my thumb on the back of the blade in order to give more control.
You can do that with the Pathfinder, but I find the guard on the 119 to interfere with that.

But the 119 has a bigger blade and for some folks that is important.

I like the Pathfinder 105 but like knarfeng said many people prefer a larger blade. It's 5" long but only about 3/4" high.

Kabar is preferable by far. Though I don't dig the next gen too much. I think the 1095 version should be put ahead of the stainless ones. Just my opinion though.

I've never heard of a kabar being made in taiwan, I think thats bull$#@!, they are both good knives, I have a standard kabar and a buck general, I like the buck, but they are both top quality so I'd say which ever you like better

Many of Kabar's products are made in Taiwan. This includes the dozier models, the MULEs, the leather handle hunters, the TDI models, and the heavy bowies, and FIN knives. The K-2 knives are made in China. The Beckers, regular Marine knives, short marine knives, and a few others are USA made. The leather handle knives are still fine quality knives but I have only used them for light use right now.

Just get the one you like the most.

1095 CroVan overall is a higher performance steel than the 420HC that buck routinely uses in outdoor knives. I'd go with the Kabar, you get more... bang for the buck...

It's not the KaBar USMC we're talking about here, it's the Stainless Steel Leather Handle Hunters.

Well aren't we the potty mouth. And ignorant of the facts, as well.

Did you bother to click the link to the KaBar web site I provided? The one where KaBar SAYS the knives are made in Taiwan??

Knife Made in Taiwan, Sheath Made in Mexico.

The knives with 1095 Cro Van blades are made in the US. The stainless are not.
