kabar or buck?

I have both of the knives that you mentioned. For most jobs, I could flip a coin. I like the Vanguard better but thats just a personal choice. Where I live, the two knives are within a couple bucks of each other for price.

I've never heard of a kabar being made in taiwan, I think thats bull$#@!, they are both good knives, I have a standard kabar and a buck general, I like the buck, but they are both top quality so I'd say which ever you like better

I own one of those made in Taiwan (it's a Ka-Bar Hunter).
So, they exist
I believe, lately they have changed the manufacturing over to Japan and also changed the steel (at least for this particular model).

The original poster asked about two specific knives, both around $40 to $45. It's nice of you to offer an alternative, but what you're showing is twice what he wanted to pay. Apparently price is a consideration, as it is for most of us nowadays.

with a little bit of looking, you can find the USA made ka-bar fighting knife around that price range, which I think is worth it to spend an extra $5 or so to get a quality knife made in America with 1095crovan.

You're preaching to the choir, brother, but I'm not the one buying the knife. I'd probably tell him to get a Ka-Bar/Becker BK-2 for around $55, but that's just me. We all have things that we like.

The Buck is a classic hunting knife. Time tested. A KaBar will perform great at just about any task, however. Go with what feels right to you.

I think the Buck handle is too slippery when guttin' a deer. The rubber on the Buck Vantage is much grippier.

Buck has Vanguards in ATS-34 on special right now, and for less than the two already mentioned. If I were you I'd look no further.

IMO, the leather handle, stainless Ka-Bar knives are not in the same league as the Buck 119 or 105. The 119 has stood the test of time as a hunting/camp knife.

i'm looking for a sort of all round hunting knife and came across the buck 119 special and kabar marine hunter. It will not be put through hard use, just light camp chores, also the kabar is quite cheaper in price.Which of the knives would be the best to buy?

These are the 2 knives he's comparing:

Based upon your choices - I would go with the Buck. Better heat treat, better leather sheath, IMO more rugged.

I have used 119's for years and they are a solid product. Ultimately though, in this category its the style and look of the knife not so much the steel. They are both good products so buy the one that appeals to you the most.

Ive got the Kabar. Its a Beautiful knife and I love it! Im going to buy another.

Its edge holding is good enough for camp tasks. If your hunting (I dont yet), then bring a dc4 with you.
