Kagas Katne review

I had an extensive reply written last night when my computer crashed.

Boils down to :
Art / Craft supply for candle- or soap- making, batik resist
Beekeepers (old comb often thrown away)
[drop dirty wax into gently boiling water then turn off heat]
Farm supply (comb forms)
Current Sno-Seal for leather footwear is a beeswax formula.

Do a search for beeswax on bladeforum and on internet.

price runs about $4-8 / pound.

Uncle, thank you for courtesy. I contacted to Mr. Ueda and he said he's going to send a KK to me as soon as possible, for free shipping charge. He's a online knife dealer, but I've never been his custmoer yet! Why can everybody around HI khukuris be so good!

Sure, Uncle. I'm only afraid I can't think of Kagas Katne without thinking of G.I. Joe, for some more weeks.

Just received the KK from Uncle Bill, and having read the sheath considerations posted on this thread, thought I'd try something.

A friend gave me an A. G. Russell pocket sheath and knife...about the size of a small paring knife. Very nice, just slips in the right rear pocket between wallet and pants, easy access.

Turns out the sheath works well for the KK. It is made of a hard leather, cut rectangularly to fit pants pocket size, and then a smaller piece of stiff leather is sewn to form the sheath.

As I remember, I used neatsfoot oil to allow the sheath to conform to the contours of the knife itself.

Not sure, AG may sell the sheath separately...or certainly easy to fabricate..using stiff leather, pop rivets, and care.

Kis = great idea for a sheath. I've been meaning to make myself one to make it more "pocket friendly". Got pics?

Mike L.:

Find a beekeeper, and then you'll find someone willing to sell by the pound! That'as what I try to do. Just pick up some locally made honey, and you'll have a way to contact the beekeeper. They'll seel 'dirty" wax (has bee parts in it, just fine) and clean wax, priced accordingly.

Sylvr--Yes, this leather armow with wax will stop a bladed weapon (maybe not a Khuk, but others) an stop thrusts. When combined with Kevlar or chainmail, you're ready to rock!

I saved, but can't post, the picture of the sheath for the A.G. Russell knife.
The model is "Woodswalker", and the site is http://www.agrussell.com

Turns out there is a kydex neck sheath there as well. Not sure if they can be purchased separately, but... the design is kind of self-evident once you see the image.

Maybe Uncle Bill could have a similar sheath design made as an alternative to the conventional KK sheath?

Pen? any luck with the axes?

Uncle Bill? the Kagas Katne... is a perfectly-sized Bird and Trout knife. Don't know if it's worth doing any target marketing, but...wonderful tool and folks would love it, once they used it.

We're all in this together, somehow.

All Kagas Katnes are not created equal. The one Uncle Bill so graciously sent along with my BAS is absolutely exquisite. Discounting the lack of a buttplate and engraving on the blade, it is every bit the equal of a full sized HI khuk for fit, finish, and materials.
The blade is very well hardened and tempered, such that it's capable of an edge that cleanly shaves, against the grain! Perhaps best of all is the unique shape of the blade. This thing's a scaled down Sirupati, perfect in every detail.

Thank you again Uncle Bill, from the bottom of my heart, and please thank for me the Kami that forged this beautiful little knife. I know there's no way to know who made it, so please just thank them all as they are all deserving.

I say again, all Kagas Katnes are not created equal. Note to self; when ordering "stocking stuffers", order extras, do some culling, give the very best to loved ones, and share the rest with friends.

Sometimes apprentices make a few kagas katnes and these will not be as good as those made by a master kami. It's as Sarge said, "they are not created equal."

Based on the kagas katne that I received this week Himalayan Imports can't be making any profit on these. Very nice! I was amazed by the workmanship, not 100% perfect, but it was only $10!!!

Still a great deal at $15. That extra five wouldn't make me hesitate. Again, I'd be willing to pay $20 for the "good ones" - well-made by the master kamis.

At $15 they're still one of the most amazing bargains in the knife world, unmatched by anyone I can think one.
I love my little KK's so much I felt they deserved their own mini chakmas. Some good Swedish high carbon steel, some shiny black tips sawed off cow horns, and voila'. A thin piece of cowhide wet molded around the chakma and existing scabbard forms the accessory scabbard. What a rig, a compact utility knife with it's own organic sharpening system, my assortment of pocket knives just got permanently superseded!

At US$15, that's still a great price, for a great little khuk!

BTW, how many KKs will fit into one package, be it $20 or $35? I wanna order a few, but don't want to pay a heap for shipping!
