Kamis Gone Wild (Marketing Survey)

I like that Pichok, firkin....!

The kamis did try their hands at a folding knife, by the way. Bura, IIRC, made a few a while back. Not as successful as hoped...:(

re: 17-18" BDC, 17-18" FF, munkleaver, etc....;)

I'm all for it, guys. But we have to prioritize and do it when the time is right. Yvsa wants the FF real bad, but do 20 other people? I've been pushing for a YCS run for a couple of years now and the time has not been right until just recently. I almost lost my chance when Uncle announced the free-for-all but fortunately enough people responded to the "feeler" to justify a new run. But the interest has slowly built over time. There weren't 20+ people interested 6 months ago (ready to prepay).

Both the BDC & FF are projects I would like to make happen. These are knives I want to own. But I want them done right and at the right time. Nothing worse than a rush job. I think that's what happened with the RA hanshee and that's why it bit the dust and burned out UB on the idea. Wasn't planned well enough (no criticism to anybody).

Give it some time - let's see what happens with the YCS run. If it succeeds, then we'll know the sky's the limit. ;)

I do think, though, that either of those models (BDC/FF) will need a wood model built first. The change in size is dramatic enough to introduce too many variables. Remember N2S's "upgraded" bowie?

Yvsa - have time to make a wood model of what you want?

They shouldn't need any models IMO. If they can make a 20"-25"YCS they oughta be able to do a 17"-18" BDC or Foxy Folly, but that's just my opinion. The Super Salyan came out like it did because of the limitations Bill put on it. Had he of just told the kamis to make a longer version of it they would'a did fine methinks.

Just for the record I will pre-pay for both an 18" bdc and a foxes folly. assuming they both don;t happen at once ;).

So do I :)

Just happened to run across it. I did see a couple of pix of ones that had a bolster that stopped before the edge or stopped even with the handle ferrule.

It really doesn't seem that far off from what the kamis currently do with say, the kumar karda, except the tang closer to the spine and the preferably partial bolster.

Don't think it would be that tough of an adjustment, but....

I'd really be interested in the FF that size, but only if they could make it lighter, yet still well tempered.

John Trout, this is a super saylan. its next to a 15 inch siruapte. use your imagination.

The Salyan is the khukuri is Uncle Bill's avatar.

The Super Salyan was an attempt at reproducing that style, but at a mega scale. Worthless at everything, except bludgeoning........and even then you need both hands just to hold it.

N2S is a regular here on the forum....:o

25" YCS, Yvsa?

!
I may be mistaken Dan, probably am as I'm sometimes easily confused, But I would almost swear someone brought up an old pic of a 25" YCS a short time back, either that or I was dreaming or delusional. :p :footinmou ;)

There goes them damned smilies moving again! I hadn't noticed them doing that recently and then BAM, I get hit with another curve ball!
I sure wish they would remain in one place.:grumpy:

Dan Koster is the Special Projects Guy, and to the crux:
1, Kamis were making 10" and 14" BDC- they did not need a prototype to make a 16 -18" version There would have been nothing 'rush' about this
2. When Dan Koster spearheads a Special project, there has never been a problem with no one showing up.

Ironically, I am tapped out at the moment, will be for some months to come, and couldn't even contribute to a Special Project Raquel Welch Life size doll, let along a khuk I really wanted

btw, and for anyone interested, I may not be around much in the coming days. I've some personal problems to attend to in the 'real' world. This may shock some of you- but I make real mistakes in life and need some time to sort these out.
