Apparently, supplies are getting a little hard to come by right now, owing to various politico-economic factors.
So, if you have any materials you would like to donate (and see reborn as part of an HI product), feel free to send them to me and I will ship the whole lot to Nepal.

Stag, horn, wood, silver, brass, steel, whatever you might have lying around.
Stag horn is in especially short supply.
PM me for my address.

Thank you for the help, Danny

Anything will do right now. I have a box with an old 14" wood rasp in there. Enough good steel in one of those for a sword..
Stag especially is good, but any donations will come back to you in very nice ways.

I'm gonna go through the old shed at my dad's house tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure I'll find something. Definitely a worthy cause.

I'll be looking around the house and ranch. I will let you know if I find something of use.

I have recently re-discovered a small cache of wood that many generous forumites had given me years ago when I began tinkering with home stabilizing. I thought the wood had been lost in my move to WV, but there are still a few pieces in a small selection of species that would be a suitable size for Khuk handles. I would be more than happy to pass them into the very worthy and much more capable hands of the Kamis. :D

Danny-

Is it just materials (woods and metals) that they need, or could they also use some tools or consummables?

I would be downright excited to pick up an armload of safety glasses, sandpaper or sawblades if they could use them.

Could we get a "wish list" of desired items?
-And a timeline for when you need to have everything together?

I have a suspicion that you are going to end up with a ton o' stuff. I'd be happy to kick in a few bucks to help you ship it as well. Let us know. :)

Thanks for heading this up, Danny!

Great point, Mac. I don't really have any materials that they could use (maybe some leather?). However, I would be more than happy to pick up some supplies. Name it, and I'll see what i can do:thumbup:

One is tempted to look up junkyards and auto salvage, in order to fish about for truck springs. But then, the kamis would want to examine those in person, wouldn't they?

It's hard to guess at what would help; I second the motion for a "wish list."

An axe head would be a good piece of quality steel, like my big old rasp.
How about yall just send whatever you want to me and I'll start sending it to them.
I'll send off boxes as they fill up. Raw materials and supplies alike.
I am hoping to send of box #1 next Friday (July31?)
But if yall need more time, don't worry about it, just send it anyway.
I expect to send 3 or 4 boxes in the end.
Keep a sharp eye out for stag...

Wish list:
Stag
Antler
knife handle woods
bolster/habaki materials
steel

I've got a Cherrywood burl they can have. I'll also toss in a couple of California Red Abalone shells. Be interesting to see what they do with those.

Due to my location I would be better placed to help you with financial assistance, please contact me when you can.

Thanks for taking on a task which will benefit so many folks on both sides of the blade, producer and purchaser alike.

Thanks. I'll keep my eye out.

This is all quite ironic, really: I wa always wondering if, when I place my order, it would be even acceptable to send the factory a piece of wood for handles.
By the way, do they have a preferred size for handle materials? Say, the size of a turning slab, for wood?

I will be gathering up my wood donation later this weekend. I hit up a couple of the guys I know at work who like to work on cars for some leaf springs.

One of them thinks he might have some, but knows he has some old lawn mower blades. Would those be of any value to the Kamis?

Another guy does demolition derby, and he said he'd check this weekend to see what he has.

The explanation for why I wanted the springs led to great discussions about Nepal, Uncle Bill and Aunt Yangdu, the Kamis and our favorite knife. :D I'm sure the HI website will be getting a couple new visitors. ;)

Man, I really need to find some stuff, it'd be great to see something of mine turned into a work of art by those Kami's!

I would like to extend my appreciation for all you
forumites and friends who are helping me get the Kamis the
materials they need to keep making knives for HI
and all of you.

I know the Kamis would make good use of stag horn,
exotic wood and leather, but heavy metals, like brass
and steel would be too heavy for me to afford the
shipping costs.

The Kamis especially need stag horn, which is in very
short supply. MacHete volunteered to send "an armload
of safety glasses, sandpaper and saw blades." That would
be wonderful and I am sure the Kamis can use them.

There's been a few inquiries about when these items are
needed; a time frame to keep in mind. I will need your
donations by 8-31-09.
Thank you again for your thoughtfulness.

I would submit that if we send anything, maybe WE should pay the shipping, not Mrs. Martino (unless I'm missing something).

I also have at least one, extra pair of safety glasses (as opposed to goggles); if that's OK for the kamis' use, I can certainly contribute them. And I remain curious about what size/shape of wood the kamis need, if I were to send a piece.

If you send the stuff to me, I will pay the shipping to Nepal (minus some $ contributed by some forumites)
So no problem however you want to do it.
