Kanchhi Special for Tuesday evening

Stevo, did you used to work with Dano on Havyii 5 OH?

Sounds familiar.

There's no place like home
There's no place like home
There's no place like 40 degrees all day.

I have never been to havyii, or worked with a man named Dano. But I used to be on Hawaii Five 0 if that helps any.

This is turning into a cantina conversation :o

Sorry, guys, to hijack your discussion ;), but I just snatched the M43 (first kukri for me). Always loved this model but would've preferred a 15" one, for practical reasons...didn't know these were even made, so when it popped up here I had to have it.

(Also had to have it shipped to another country, because of the laws here leave the act of *shipping* blades from outside "debatable" (sadly, not the only country in Europe...), so it'll be more than 1 month and half 'till I'll get my hands on it. Crazy thing is...I can legally get it with me over border. Go figure.)

You must be a patient man I guess. I have a hard time waiting the 3-4 days it usually takes for me to get my khuk's on the east coast of the USA. The M43 will be well worth the wait, you are going to be so frigging happy. BTW I simply love your M43, the handle curve is dead sexy and the blade shape flows right into it. You are a lucky man to get such a fine example. Please post pictures once you have time to play with it.

methinks it is 15"

Yes, this one is. Maybe I didn't word it correctly, not a native English speaker. On the website, the only M43 shown is the 18" one (unless I missed the page), so seeing *that one* I was thinking about a nice 15" version :). And here it is :).

I usually am a patient man, maybe not THAT patient, but this time I almost had no choice :).

Thanks!

I'm going to pick this one up in Chicago, where I'll be staying on business. Not familiar with the laws there, all I know is they aren't quite in love with firearms :) (gross generalization here, I know), I fear this might extend over blades as well ;). Sooo...I might need to wait for two extra months until I'm back to my native woods to do some chopping. I just don't want to be sent back to Europe for swinging a big blade over my head :).

Other than this torment, all is well. Oh, and thank you! :)

BTW, I'd like to extend my compliments to the moderators of this section, for the useful stickied newbie thread at the top of the page - on avoiding cutting off a limb during kukri handling, what is the "sweet spot" and so on.

The website leaves out some that are posted on here. (Third I got wasn't listed. Just happened to see it in a old posting) Sometimes ones on here are smaller/lighter, and then some are a lot bigger like a 25" 66 ounce ang khola posted last month.

I guess that is used to behead two buffaloes at once... :D Thanks for the heads-up!

I wonder - is there a complete catalog of the products? I saw it mentioned, but no link to it.

Actually being made one at a time and each one basically being one of a kind a catalog in the true sense of the word would be very tough. The website has usual sizes and weights but nothing is cast in steel, guess that should be stone but steel seemed appropriate.

It's kind of an ask and you shall receive or be patient and wait and your dream blade will appear.

An email to Auntie to check on her stock and indicating you want to go towards the light or heavy side, short or long etc can work miracles. She does miracles every day.

She can also tell you is a custom is possible and what kind of wait time would be required depending on current projects etc.

Congratulations Moonw and welcome to HI Khukuri ownership. HIKV might not be too far ahead in your future, though with the difficulties of shipping, you might have to arrange some way around that. The blade that chose you is a great one to start with, many folks seem to think very highly of that style and the weight/length you got should make it a very useful blade in a variety of situations.

On another note, we have a few non-native English speakers around this forum. Usually you can only tell because their English it too good compared to us Americans :D

Thank you for the advices, Bawanna. Appreciated.

Shavru, thanks. Well, when there's will, there's a way :). I travel every now and then to US, as do some of my colleagues.

My better half is already warning me about getting any ideas...regarding another purchase. She knows me quite well, what can I say?

As for the last remark...LOL...good one! :) You just reminded me why, at least 99% of the time :D, I enjoy working with Americans. Haven't found yet foreign people I relate better to. As a rule, many typical Europeans seem like glaciers compared to you guys.

Hey Moonw, Tell your better half that there is NO way to stop at 1 ..Glad you found HI..As so many have said, these blades WILL find you..It is amazing how it works..As i have said somewhere before, you can find a Khuk. on line at several sites, but, it Is HI and their way of doing business that makes is really special to be a proud owner.....Sounds like patience will be virtue for you in getting these in your hands...Good luck!!

Congrats and welcome to the forum:)
I have a ton of HI khuks, and that 15" m43 is a gem. I am super jealous my friend:)

If you can receive your blade in Chicago, I don't really think that you'll have much issue. I wouldn't take it out and swing it around, but I think from a legal stand point you should be fine. I don't think I could wait two months for an HI blade knowing that I was 3-4 days from having one shipped to me;)

Good luck and welcome once again:)

You're going to like that '43, Moonw and welcome to the shark tank. There are some good folk here and the moderators are fair. Please be advised: Shavru was correct about the dreaded HIKV disease. it just creeps up on one so unexpectedly. I stopped in for a chat and to obtain ONE measley khukuri. The next month saw me slavering at the mouth, howling at the Moon (no pun intended) and throwing vast quantities of green backs towards Reno for yet another khukuri and then another and then another. Alas, there is no cure. There is weekly meetings held at Bawanna's house on Friday nights at 6 PM. It's open to all HIKV sufferers at no cost. So here's your open invitation to join Kuks Anonymous. We're here when you need us!

Yep, I was impressed how nice and easy to deal with Yangdu was. And I've seen several other people stating the same.

Traditionally, we've been "collecting" dogs...a certain breed... :) so I can really relate to waiting for a few years for a mating and spending hard earned cash on what others would call "wim".
