Aside from the color of it, there are 3 types of micarta...
From the most coarse to the finest (of fibers in the weave)...
Canvas Micarta
Linen Micarta
Paper Micarta
And the old snakeskin Micarta was made up of layers of all three to achieve its look.
Maybe I'm just making things muddier!
