I’m so sorry that I influenced you to spend so much money!!! LOL. They are wonderful, wonderful knives, the 98’s. Extraordinary craftsmanship. I have a few of the camp knives, but wish I’d ordered a couple of 98 cattle knives as well.

If you can deal with the size and quality of the 98, you really should buy the ‘24 Forum Knife! They are awesome

It was all a master plan by Bill to make sure we do not bother him again :)
Spruiker voice:

AAPK had their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd preferred choices submitted, and all were rejected. Bill gives the same "take-it-or-leave-it" approach for all club knives it seems.
I believe that’s pretty true, but AAPK did refused the first handle material that was presented to them and an alternative was sourced. Bill seems to like to control the pattern, which makes sense as it needs to fit into the production schedule. But there does seem to be a little leeway in handle material options. The price increase with last years forum knife was huge, but the color and jigging definitely didn’t help push the sales.

I think this has been mentioned before but in general people that have longtime personal and business connection with Bill are usually able to get more flexibility on want they want to order for e.g. Forums.

For example the Bunny knife was organised by/through Waynorth, so we got something more distinct.
Previous forum knives also involved members that knew Bill well, as mentioned previously.

I genuinely think that what we got was the best possible option we could have had, at the time, fitting into the production plans of GEC. Spark did what he could to keep us happy, within those limits.

I had the benefit of my semi-idle retirement, whereas Spark is trying to make a living! I'm sorry I can't summon the old days of less expensive Forum knives, but we seem to be on a new path!! The most fun was negotiating the pattern with Bill!! He is reasonable!! And so am I!!! 🤣

Well I guess that's it for the Annual BladeForums Traditional "Porch" knives.
Too difficult.
Too costly.
Too much dissent.
Too much GEC vulturing.
Flippery.
Not surprised really.
Just one thing to add before I close this thread....

This is us....The Fighting Temeraire by JMW Turner....a noble battleship with years of service and the scars to prove it..being towed to its grave by a nasty little tugboat which I will Christen The Economist.
