Keeping a knife in your car

Does anyone here keep a knife in their car or is it just me? I always have a Buck 119 special within my reach when I'm driving. It's great for if I ended up flipping my car on the drive to or from my house, since I live out of the way in a heavily wooded area and if it ever goes as sideways as it could, there's a serious possibility that no one would drive by for hours and an even slimmer chance someone who did drive by would be able to see me. At least if I have the knife, I can use it to help punch out my window by making a hole to get a weak spot and punching it. After that, I can cut my seatbelt off with the knife and get back to the road at least. There's also the obviously possibility of having to use it in a self defense scenario. Why do you guys carry a knife in your cars and what kinds do you guys keep?

I've got 3 in the truck. Always one in the pocket. Couple in my bag. They just accumulate and I forget to take them out.

There might be a knife in my pickup- I'm not sure. I know there is a machete, hatchet, and chainsaw in there though.

I carry a Spyderco Assist rescue (orange for sight) in both my cars. Both in the center console, drivers side, easy to get to.

I feel like if I'm running into a car accident (or heavens forbid in one) I want the proper tool for said job.

I forgot to add, if I'm in the car, there are several knives in the car.

That made me laugh harder than it should have. I keep mine in the driver's side door pocket. That way, if the knife in my pocket won't get the job done, I have something. Plus it's a fixed and if I have to baton something, I have a full tang and no worries

I have a folder in my pocket 24/7, so it's on me everytime I am in my car (or any other car)

Agreed that if I had to cut myself out of a stuck seatbelt it would be there for me, but I have never even thought about a knife as a "self defence" tool...(Only when I am hiking in the middle if nowhere, which is all the time)

I saw someone in another thread suggest that a good pair of running shoes work better for self defence than a knife, and I tend to agree with that assessment.

I keep a SAK Farmer in a Skinth Solutions pouch in the center console.

It's a fight or flight thing. Sometimes flight doesn't work. I like to have a backup plan for my backup plan. Plan A is try to de-escalate a potential fight, plan B is to run. 99% of the time, that's all I need, but you can't really blame me for having a plan C. I like my knives to function as both tools and that plan C

Besides the knives on me I always have a few in the car as well as a bunch of other stuff, go bag and what not.

Yeah, I have an extra knife in my truck in the console. It beats the hell out of having to dig in my pocket to get one on occasion or get it clipped back securely so it won't get lost. Most of the time I pocket carry.

I keep a small machete under the seat of my pickup and one in the trunk of the car with an emergency kit. I used the machete once to get out of a muddy patch I got stuck in fishing down by the river bank. Some cut brush stuck under the wheels got me the traction to get out. I love small machete's for stuff my pocket knife can't handle. I've used the heck out of the sheep foot bladed 9 1/2 inch one on top.

The English Martindale on bottom has been a great bushwhacker and camp tool.

Completely understand your "plan C" just hate the stigma attached to knives as "weapons"

I am not ignoring that they can't be that, but so can many other things that nobody associates as a weapon first.
A baseball bat is one of many examples.

I look at my knives as tools, maybe the best tool ever invented, and I wish more people would see it as that first.

I also think that as a community of knife enthusiast we understand this better than the general population, and need to work at making sure people outside of the community realize that we don't carry our knives to hurt people....even if we feel threatened.

I keep a partially serrated Endura with zdp189 steel in the console of my car. If I ever leave home without my carry/work knife I can use the Endura in a pinch. (It s been years since I left my knife at home).

As far as using a knife as a weapon, it is always a last resort. the only skin my knives have cut is my own when my fingers jump in the way of my sharpest knife as I'm closing it. I cut more tape and bailing twine with my knives in a week than a serial killer could cut through people in a year

Never in my now civilian roll have I thought of my knife as a weapon as you I see it as a tool my weapon sits in a leather holster on my left side and is loud when it talks lol. But I do keep knives in my vehicle in case of a emergency i.e. Seat belt , window , stray thread

I keep a machete in my work vehicle all the time. I keep a number of knives in my work bag available to use in addition to what ever is in my pocket. So, yeah, I keep knives in my vehicle.

I think I answered a similar thread before, but yes, a few. There is a Mora in the toolbag in the trunk, an old Gerber gator in the first aid kit, an older Buck folder in the glove compartment, and a Resqme tool on a carabiner, on the wiper stalk. Add to that a Vic Classic on my key chain and whatever folder I am edc-ing that day. None of mine are tactical and just there to use as a tool when needed.
