Ken Coats Slipjoints

I liked Ken's Koa Shadow from 2010. But then I have a biased opinion.

Good looking bone Ken, is that some of the bone you rescued from the river?

That is some fantastic looking bone, Ken! Just beautiful!

I remember reading an article in Knife World where you mentioned the old bones that you found in the river near an old slaughterhouse. I had no idea it was such beautiful bone.

This one is a scale down of my 4 5/8" clip to 3 7/8". Integral frame, and a jigging and
dye job I've been chasing for years. My dyed and jigged bone. Take a look.

Ken, more great bone and a real nice pattern as well. Is that your version of "worm groove" jigging?

Color and pattern look good. I think the smaller size is spot on for this knife.

Beautiful work Ken!
Tell us more about that jigging and dye job.
What inspired it?

I wouldn't call the jigging "worm groove" its more of a stag look if I would have left more of
the little islands out. In the past I've used it many times from a popular supplier and was
asked if it was amber stag. A crock pot is used, vacumn chamber, dye, and a timed PP
burn. Its not a real simple process and the jigging is more of an artwork than bonking bone
with a bit. Hope this helps a little.
Ken.

Thanks for the added details Ken. You are a wizard when it comes to the jigging and dying processes.

Here's one I finished this afternoon, 3 7/8", integral bolsters, half stops, my bone.
The pen blade on this was taken down to .072, master at .093
Comments welcome - Take a look. Ken.
