Ken Erickson: Muskrat

Sounds like someone gave Guido a talkin' to, or maybe just Cookies.

I'm very glad to hear this, Elliott.

It ain't over 'til it's over, but Hurrah for some promising news.

Elliott, just in case you're so aggrevated by the time it gets there that you don't want it anymore, you can forward it to me. ;)

Home with its siblings, where it belongs...Thank you, Ken for another wonderful addition. I couldn't be happier.

Your welcome Elliott!

Glad it made it to your tree in time to be opened today.

Merry Christmas to you, Tina and Smoky.

I sure am glad to see these knives together!

Congratulations (and: whew!) again.

Thanks for the good words. The knives are great, the friendships and fellowship even more so.

Beauties one and all, Elliott!
Nice work Ken!!
Question; I heard that that micarta darkens with age! Are my eyes deceiving me, or are we seeing a darkening in those slightly older knives already!!??

Glad all is well Elliot---very very very nice (one very for each knife) trio you have there my friend:thumbup:

Happy Holidays to you:)

Paul

Thanks, Paul and Charlie.

Charlie, I think they "may" season over time but when I discussed this with Ken it seems the apparent lighter shade of the muskrat is due to the removal of some top layers of micarta during the process of shaping and fitting.

Glad you got your Muskrat in time for Christmas Elliott, that's a great pic, Ken is certainly a master knifemaker :)

Thanks, Jack. It seems that Ken and I aren't satisfied unless it comes down to the 11th hour.

A couple years back Ken sent me a package via Express Mail that didn't arrive in timely fashion. One of the postal workers at the small station where it was due had remained behind after hours on Christmas Eve to take care of some tasks when the package happened to show up on a late truck from the sorting facilty.

He called me at home and waited for me to drive the four or five miles over there to pick it up. Just goes to show that there are some pretty good stories associated with the postal service to help offset the less happy ones.

What I'm taking away from this, in combination with the tales (and worry) of the last two packages sent and received, is that "shipping angst" is a somewhat traditional aspect of your sending knives to each other.

Nice story Elliott :)

Very true!

That Muskrat is beautiful! I keep coming back to check out the fine details. Thanks for the word on the Micarta, Elliott.
If I am not mistaken, that material borders on "antique". Perhaps it is darkened with age, and successive layers are lighter as it is removed/finished? Hmmmm?

Could very well be the case, Charlie. It is reputed to be vintage material sourced from the old Randall shop. I guess time will tell.

Beautiful trio!!!

Thank you, friend.
