Kerambit Video Clip

I recieved the dvd today, it was awesome. Unlike alot of training DVDs out there, Guro Jeff's DVD was very easy to learn from. It wasn't all flash, but alot of explanation and real world application.

Definitly worth checking out!

I can't help but notice that the attacker in the clip does an extremely good imitation of a statue.

hahaha, I agree!! It's the same with most of these vids, a guy attacks and the other guy doesn't move!

Jhivaro, why don't you call him out and test him?

I would but i don't beat up on short guys hahaha.

Why don't you call him out. talk is cheap. But you probably meant you don't like to get beat up by short guys. I've trained with that SHORT guy and so has alot of other fma artist that are probably 10x better than you are, so unless you have trained with him I would keep your comments on a more respectable level. Besides...it's a training dvd for beginners hence the level 1 title. Most beginners wouldn't be able to follow it if he went faster than that.

Rizaldy,

That's no lie. Anyone who has touched hands with Guro Jeff know very well that he is not only a great instructor, but he can back up his stuff. Guro Jeff is "old school", he will let his actions speak for himself.

Only advice to the cowards on this post who conveniently have excuses why they won't call guro out. Be careful for what you ask for, you may get it.

SticknBlade,

I wouldn't judge someone's skill by a 30 second video clip as well as their height. When in a confrontation, if you did that you may get your a** handed to you. Since you're 6'3, 240 and a bouncer it seems like you have a false sense of security. Underestimating someone skills by their appearence is a mistake 'amatuers' make. I take it you aren't an amatuer, so don't think like one.

I agree MaRex! I bounced at a club here in Chicago for about 4 yrs. All the bouncers there were 6ft and over...except for me i'm 5'5" and at the time weighed 150lbs. My collegues often let me kick people out because they found it funny how people underestimated me coz of my size. As a bouncer he should know that you cant judge someone because they are short, tall, fat, or skinny.

Now I get, your public profile indicates that you a 23 year old 6'3 240 pond bouncer, who knows karate. In other words, your an ex-highschool football jock who wasn't good enough to make a college team, so you decided to make best use of your size and become a doorman to a bar. And then you watch "The Karate Kid", and decided to take a few lessons.

Man you've got a lot to learn about MA.

Jack Spencer, and yeah, that's my real name...

sticknblade,

I am about 5'7" and 163lb. And half the teacher and martial artist as Guro Jeff. I think I would have a little bit more respect for someone that has dedicated thier life to martial arts. I have done MA for most of my life and I don't come close to the man Guro Jeff is.

Ha,
When I hit someone I don't bother to ask them their credentials. I hit them, and they fall period. The shorter you are, the faster you fall.

I found especially in fma training, weapons only make that clearer.

I like that i'm a big guy. Trust me, for all their bravado, they get in front of me, and I just swat 'em. Bang, they're out.

In the words of Doc Hollywood from the movie Tombstone, "I'm here Huckleberry". Why don't you come and try to swat me.

I am the same size as you sticknblade and I would rather fight someone with your size, training and attitude than I would a man of smaller stature with identical training and a mindset not colored by a false belief in the superiority of something so inconsequential as size.

I can and do move 300lb sculpture by myself. That doesn't make me an invincible ninja fighter.

I don't know guro Jeff and I'm not going to say anything about him personally. Strictly addressing that clip, I'm not impressed. Even at the beginner level there has to be some resistance from the opponent. To have a guy stand there with his arm sticking out in space while the instructor does a string of techniques is very unrealistic.

Question for those that have viewed the entire DVD: do they ever show him using these techniques against real resistance?

I think the point is everything is done in steps. That is obviously a template. Just a show of targeting and footwork. Of course you need a real live opponent in class and out, to show you how it will all be applicable in real life. But for the layperson and beginner's sake, it looks like merely a template so they can understand the angles of attack. After that will come resistance from a partner. After that will come some competition within the class. After that, will come the bruises and lacerations and sweat. After that will hopefully come tyhe ability to turn on and off that "switch" between life and death, that "killer insinct" if you will. After that will come the ability to see the connectivity of it all, the rythm. Finally after that (goodness forbid), if attacked on the street after all that work. you might be able to turn on that killer instinct for sake of survival and make short work of a real opponent so you can walk away with your and your family's life in tact. It's all about steps.
