Kershaw accidentally opens

I've had and carried Kershaw AO's since the blackout was released. I've yet to have one open on me, even dropping on the floor.

I did have a benchmade panther open in my RFP and cut me pretty bad, sticking in the bone like a needle. It was a liner lock model that had the screw come too loose on without my realizing the significance of back then. ( I'd guess around 1995 or so, it was Gin 1 steel, weehawk blade style. Still have it). A tightening fixed it up.

You always remember things when they bite.
I understand the seriousness of it as I got cut pretty bad. I was reaching for change in my pocket, in line waiting to pay for gas. By the time I left, I had a pocket half full of blood, and it would flow, almost spurt a little with heartbeats. I grabbed napkins to try and stop the blood, while paying for the gas and trying to hide all the blood. I lost around a small styrofoam cups worth before I got it stopped bleeding, while driving home by this time.

I've never seen it with any other knife since. Joe

I've never understood the combination of the AO and a safety. AO is for quick deployment of the blade, but disengaging the safety takes a lot longer that using a convention one hand opener. Why make a fast to deploy knife that you have to deploy slowly in order to carry it safely?

Exactly. Having the safety on completely defeats the purpose of an AO.

I've never had any of mine accidentally open, and I don't really see how they could.

I have a Kershaw Chive that has opened up several times while in my pocket. I use the safety also. One time I slid my jeans on , not knowing that it was open , and cut my leg seven inches. Not a deep cut but still , it could have been. This is unaceptable. I quit carrying it.

My question , has this happened to any of you?

Maybe it happened while your jeans were off, since it cut you when you were putting you jeans on??

I've carried Kershaw AO knives for years and have never had one open on me like the original poster described.

i had a chive that completely fell apart with very limited use and no abuse. it fell apart just from firing the blade... maybe 100 times. the safety never engaged properly, scales kept coming loose, and the lock was terrible. for 20$ i didnt think it was worth sending back to kershaw for a look. too bad, i liked the little blade for about 2 days.

i now keep just the blade in my work desk for a letter opener and junked the rest of it. -CB

I find that the only AO knives that open accidentally are the ones with the flippers. The ones with the thumbstuds never do that which is why I stick with those kinds over the flipper kinds.

WOW.... seven posts in nearly 4 years, and you post in this 2 year old thread..... you should really consider catching up.... the newer stuff is really good.... I promise ;)
