Kershaw Blur Sucks

440A or B is a poor performing steel. It's the type used in "gas station" knives. I'd stay away from all 440 steels, except for 440C.

If you're going to cut rope, I wouldn't use anything less than S30V or D2 with a coarse finish.

(Sandvik 13C26 is good for daily stuff, but for abrasive materials, you need something with more wear resistance).

Not that it NEEDS to be said, but I'll post it anyway.

Great Job Thomas!!! And Cleve glad you got it all worked out.

I couldn't remember what happened as to why I had an issue with Kershaw then it came back. I got a 1560 Whirlwind in trade from a BF member and he said it was missing a screw. I called Kershaw and in 3 days had 2 new screws to put in it. Thing is... It wasn't missing a screw at all. Was just made that way. Well I don't have the knife anymore and do miss it some, but I traded it off because it was a plain edge. I only really ever carry combo edges....

Cleve thank you for bringing Kershaw back up to the front for me, as I've not noticed the upgraded steels and now I can get a 1560 in a combo edge as well!!!!

Thanx and glad it's workin out.

DM

Well, the French have been using 440A in their Laguioles, even with a low RC, and they are regular workingmen's knives. Their high end knives are upgraded to 12C27.

Europeans generally seem to have done OK with 440A.

Does anyone know if it's 440A or B that Randall has used?

How did we ever manage to cut rope when I was a kid, let alone my Dad in the Army, years before D2, let alone S30V?

I will have to look for my Leek the next time I fill up.
The one I had was from a reputable knife shop and I thought it was fantastic.

Thomas and Kershaw don't deserve the kind of crap that was thrown out here.

I'm glad that I read this thread. I have come back to knives after a long hiatus. A lot of reading on BF and actually buying and using the knives have lead me to the conclusion that Kershaw and Spyderco are my folders of choice. Depending on my mood or the knife model, I can use/enjoy either companies product. I find that the Sandvik steel meets my needs and that Kershaw knives are a quality product. I will definately buy Kershaw again.

I just got a Kershaw Blur for $30 from Ebay that I am sure the seller sold because he had the same experience as the starter of this thread. I have 3 new Blurs already but I saw this as a bargin and grabbed it. It had a nice big burr and would not cut anything when I opened it last night from the sellers package. In about 3 minutes of sharpening I cut the package it came in into little pieces...lol....I bet he sold it because he did not understand the burr caused it not to be sharp....

I have abunch of expensive, higher end knives but I always have one of my 3 Blurs on me. I also have a scallion (which I love) and a Leek.

They do need sharpening from time to time but I use them a lot!:D

Cleve Loga,

You put together a 'special' thread here brother.

I read your nicely spelled "An appolige/Blur" and that only made your argument even less substantial.

If you indeed "depend on our knives with our lives" then why would you go with an economical Kershaw model but then expect it to perform like a custom blade or super steel or even a tool steel!?!? It still has not been made clear what really transpired however what is clear is your approach to this situation was nothing less than undesirable and shows bad form.

Especially in a world where many folks believe exactly and only what they see, hear and read. Let me spell it out: "THIS IS BAD PR FOR KERSHAW". If they deserved it, then by all means, but they didn't and still don't.

What you should have done, since your "life depends on your blade", is buy a higher end Kershaw, such as a Zero Tolerance knife or at the very least a Kershaw with a superior steel such as the ones already mentioned...S30V, ZDP-189 or even 154CM. What do you think we take to the Sandbox?...Zero Tolerance is the only way to go for the work-fighter. If you say "I was trying to spend less" or "save money"....essentially that translates to your life being worth 60 bones or less then.

Point is, in a place where we can't see each other, can't shake hands, can't disect expressions or body language to judge character, all we really have is our words, behavior, written expressions and honorable actions in the "For Sale" forums. Thats IT!

Where do you think you lie now, for many here, after this thread?

Where do you think Kershaw lies after the way they responded to your rant?

Side Note: I'm not against you, or attacking you brother, believe it or not, this is friendly advice. I'm simply pointing out what is in plain sight for everyone here.

my blur stays dull also!!!!!! i love kershaw products just wish they would have used a little nicer steel for close to 70$.

:jerkit: maybe you should read his newer thread before spewing your diarrhetic rantings...this thread was over with, and by bringing it to the top YOU are making kershaw look bad

WE have a winner here.

If you read the post above mine it was done the same day less than one hour prior. This is how I discovered the thread.....at the TOP! ;)

But seriously, you have clearly demonstrated for us how thoroughly and meticulous you read. I'll let you examine my original post once more.

I'm done with this thread. Its headed nowhere pretty quick now.

a lot of people treat knives as if they are disposable and don't know how to resharpen them... makes me want to :barf:

65535, mods rarely close threads. They are trying to empower discussion, not decide who has had enough to say. It's up to each of us to portray ourselves effectively, and if you don't like the way a thread is continuing, leave it. There is lots of other material to read.

What a waste. I was never real good at maintaining an edge myself, as much as I used knives on the job. Fortunately, I bought reasonable quality, and replaced what was dull but kept it around.

Then I got a Sharpmaker and resurrected several good old knives! :D

It hurts when people feel free to criticize equipment when it's their own fault it isn't working right.
