Kershaw CAMP 10... Grey/ black Handle or Tan/ black Handle???

I went with the tan one. I liked that color better for pretty much the same reason as you. One thing you’ll notice is that the finish will wear off instantly upon any abrasive contact.

On the tan and black handle, the part where the blade meets the handle is black -The exact color of the blade. I could actually see this causing a little bit of a safety issue.

I haven’t had any issues there. The guard keeps my cuttables off the blade. The only issue I’ve had was just this morning. I had a bundle of firewood in hand and had unfastened the retainer strap from the sheath. When I bent over to put the firewood down, the blade slid out of the sheath and across the knuckle of my thumb, slicing it neatly and ever so cleanly. (Yes, I had the knife and sheath resting atop the bundle and, well, got ahead of myself...)

The ease of the cut surprised me. Not that it happened, but that the blade was still that sharp after spending a few days bashing through knotty, hard, twisted firewood (some oak, pecan, hickory). I’ve had this thing since shortly before Christmas, sharpened it a few times, and have bashed the buggers out of it, chopping and batoning willy-nilly, mostly expecting it to break soon and early since it’s not one of the magic and more expensive brands of cutlery wonder. ;)

Much to my pleasant surprise, it has so far proven to be a fun and useful tool, the Band-Aids of tomfoolery notwithstanding...

Haha! Awesome story! I LOOOVE your knife!!! Always cool to see a blade that's had significant use... Yeah, I'd say you have effectively beat the crap out of that thing. Haha!

How easily did the coating come off? I'm curious because I own an old Remington blade with a black coating just like that. I remember beating the crap out of that thing and the coating never came off anything like that...

Thanks for the pic and the info!

Anybody got a nice pic of the grey and black handle version?? Hard to tell what that knife actually looks like from the online pics...

The blade coating comes off very quickly, as in "instantly" the first time I hammered the blade through a chunk of wood. I can't scratch it off with a thumbnail, but clearly it's not as durable as, say, the DLC coating on one of my other blades. That said, I bought the knife to use the hell out of it, so I don't mind if that shows. Once in a while I wipe it down with a silicon cloth to keep rust off, but the wood I bash it through often leaves skid marks.

I was actually quite captivated with some of the SP options from Ontario for a minute there. The SP 5 had me going with that classic bowie look, but then I started watching some videos and people are consistently having problems with the blade coming loose in the handle after nominal use... Only on the newer issues, though... Sucks cuz I really wanted to support U.S.!

I have 10 different SP models from Ontario and have not experienced the separation. I did see the one YouTube reviewer who had an issue with an SP53. All three of mine have not exhibited that characteristic.

I have an SP-01 that I’ve had for probably 25 years. I’ve beat the absolute hell out of that thing. It’s been everything from a kitchen knife to a tent stake and everything in between.

Not one hint of the handle coming loose, but it’s been sharpened so much the blade profile is a lot different.

I have a lot of big choppers and i bought that one for my brother a couple years ago since I had to meet the secret santa price range. It's such a good knife, I want one myself but I put an end to the knife spending, I just had to shut it down. When I think of THE efficient chopper, I think of the camp 10. Cheap chinese spring steel just thick enough and with the right shape and grind to be a total beast. The plastic handle is really great in my hand. I like the sheath setup, but your knuckle gives me pause about that now. My brother threw it at a tree and snapped the handle through (brown inside the split) so it was cracked already during chinese manufacturing. Sent it back for a new one though, no prob. Just for comfort and effectiveness per dollar though, It's a champ. Check out the youtube chop off tournament there this thing beats them all as I remember. It's great to see you beat the heck out of it though, great stuff!

Man do I love seeing knives like this that have seen some work and play.

I have had no problems with the ones I’ve been thumping on either.

Those knives in SP lineup have worked great for me too.

what is the steel on these kershaws....I know its a a carbon, but a 1055, or 1080 or 5160? anyone know?
