Kershaw Knockout

Thank you for making this knife in Aluminum again. Its a better material to hold stop pins IMHO. I also think having a handle with minimal flex makes folders feel more formidable.

We have been working on a run of these over the last few weeks. Some have already shipped out. I don't know who is getting them, but there should be some Knockouts available soon. The new ones will all be Aluminum - my guess is that Amazon's description is outdated.

Thanks Jimmer for the info.

KershawGuy: I'm loving the pics! Now I just need one in hand :D

Agreed. My first reaction to the news of going back to aluminum over G-10 was a little bit of disappointment; however, I feel that aluminum is a better material for a knife with no steel lining the handle. It's got the most advantageous mix of weight and strength IMHO.

Also, as someone pointed out above, aluminum will be easier to do in different colors rather than having to have different colored G-10 made. I hope to see this model compete with the Blur for available color offerings eventually.

Just ordered my Knockout 1870! Should be here in a few days. Can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks KG.

Alum. Is back! I was just thinking I might pass on the knockout. Now I don't know if I can.

I do like how the sub frame lock is milled out. I'm really not that big a fan of aluminum. I'm gonna be picking up the original g10 version in a couple days.

Ordered mine this morning when I got a e-mail from BladeHQ that they were in stock. Hopefully by Saturday it will be here.

According to the tracking info I got from KG, my Knockout should be in my mailbox when I get home today. This may be one of the longest days I've ever had at this job. That's not saying much because usually my days soar by because I love my job but still.

KG-
Thanks so much for the opportunity to get one of these and for shipping it to me so quickly. I didn't order til Wednesday afternoon.

+1

I'm in the exact same boat as you. It's gonna be a long afternoon! LOL, oh well...I'm excited to get it. Thanks, Dave!

I don't have any problem with the new aluminum handles, in fact I just ordered my knockout today and I'm very excited. Just out of curiosity what was the problem with the g10 handles?

Jimmer answered that question. He said there was nothing wrong with the g10 handles but they wanted to make the knife more rigid. The aluminum handles allowed KAI to keep the thinness of the design while also strengthening it. That was the gist of his answer.

Jimmer,"slick" is precisely my issue with aluminum handles. I just don't like them at all. Hopefully I can track down a g-10 version somewhere, otherwise, no Knockout for me. Huge dissapointment.

I haven't been able to put my new Knockout down all weekend. Obviously, the aluminum scales are not G-10 grippy, but I wouldn't call them slick either. At least, not slick like SS handles. Truth be told, I've always been a pretty big fan of Aluminum handle. This is honestly the most enamored I've been with any Kershaw since the Scallion that started me down the Kershaw path back in Summer 2002.

For me, like some others, I was happy when I heard that Kershaw changed to G10 from aluminum, so now that they changed back to aluminum, I will still get one, but it will most likely be a safe queen. I love all things Kershaw, but I like the cosmetic durability of G10 over anodized aluminum. I'm sure that I will get some flak from all who like that "well loved" patina... I guess I would too if I could afford to buy two (or more) of each model, lol!

Osodavis, I think you would be surprised. The feel of an aluminum handle changes somewaht depending on how the aluminum is finished before anodizing. The Knockout handles get blasted first, so they have a matte finish, and wuhle it's not G-10, it's not as slippery as you might imagine. If you get a chance to handle one, check it out - the new ones really turned out nice.

Scott, I have found that with a dedicated knife pocket (a pocket for just the knife, nothing else), scratched anodizing really isn't an issue. It's generally rubbing against change and other objects, or being dropped that mars the finish, so being alone in a pocket the finish will look like new for a long time. I don't really carry change, but I keep my knife in my left front pocket, phone right front, wallet left rear, and my keys right rear. My knives stay in very good shape this way, despite EDC use.

Will these have a detent so we can de-assist them?

-orangish ducktape

They have a detent ball (just like all other knives) but no detent hole in the blade. The Speedsafe mech is the only thing keeping the blade in the handle.

And on the aluminum being slick, it isn't slick at all. The blasted finish combined with the great ergos make it SUPER solid in the hand. It's not going to slip out under normal use at all.
