Kershaw Knockout

They have a detent ball (just like all other knives) but no detent hole in the blade. The Speedsafe mech is the only thing keeping the blade in the handle.

And on the aluminum being slick, it isn't slick at all. The blasted finish combined with the great ergos make it SUPER solid in the hand. It's not going to slip out under normal use at all.

Will you be doing a video on the knockout?

Eventually, yeah. The move and new job has us busy as ever, so new vids will be few and far between. I think within the next few days I am going to crank some out, so I can do one of it if you'd like. Just let me know! :)

A video would be great. The ones I see right now look like it was filmed by a guy with cataracts.

Scott, I have found that with a dedicated knife pocket (a pocket for just the knife, nothing else), scratched anodizing really isn't an issue. It's generally rubbing against change and other objects, or being dropped that mars the finish, so being alone in a pocket the finish will look like new for a long time. I don't really carry change, but I keep my knife in my left front pocket, phone right front, wallet left rear, and my keys right rear. My knives stay in very good shape this way, despite EDC use.

Thanks for the reply comment, jimmer_5; truthfully, the only personal experience I have with anodized aluminum scratching is with my LFK, which being clipless, rides daily with my change in my right front pocket, while the EDC of the day rides clipped in that pocket (my Leatherman Wingman rides clipped in my left hand front pocket daily). I have a 1670TBLKST that spends all of it's time in one of my 3 Kershaw brag bags; I should break down and carry it once in a while, as I love how hard and fast it opens.

*bump*

Forget what I asked about in that other Knockout thread. This newer version is sweet! I am definitely getting this one instead of either one of the older versions...

Jimmer, thanks for the reply, but I found a dealer that still has some of the G-10 version in stock, so I'm going to order one this weekend, I'm pretty excited about it!

Got mine yesterday. After getting a Piston that is G10 without liners I'm really glad they went back to aluminum for the Knockout. Great knife! You guys have the ability to have a Blur type of following with this knife I think. Lets see some more colors and steels! :)

I just got a knockout, really like it, but I like the pic at the beginning of this thread that has the lock plate silver. Really considering stripping the black coating off my knife. Anybody tried it?

So what do you think between the knockout and the piston? One over the other or about equal?

I just picked up both this month and I don't think I could really pick one over the other yet. I like them both a lot. Just based on my own silly initial reaction (not scientific or based on anything other than my personal assumption). I would say the knockout is a better carry knife due to the deeper pocket clip and it's more narrow/slim than the Piston. But I get the sense that the Piston would be better for longer/harder use due to a bigger fuller handle. That's about all I got right now until I can use them more. If ya can, get both, they don't dissapoint.

Jtoler, thanks for the response! I do like the clip on the knockout more than that of the piston, visually at least but the overall design of the piston appeals to me. Luckily I do not have the cash today to buy either before I firm up my decision. I'm currently running a revolving door on the cheaper kershaws so I'm getting a feel for what I want.

I've made this comparison in another thread here somewhere but don't know where. I like the Knockout better. If the Piston had SS liners it might be a little higher up on the scale but without them it just feels "cheaper". I like the blade design better on the KO and the alum handle just gives it a better feel. I also like the slight angle on the KO flipper better than the straight design on the Piston. Opening and closing with one had on the Piston my index finger seems to get torn up from the thumb studs. Same design as the Blur which I have no problem with but for some reason my finger catches the studs on the Piston when closing. The KO IS a little slick however and could do with a little more texture.
