+1 Gerber shard or leatherman style on the keyring solves a lot of these problems and frees up your knife to do what it was many to do, cut.
Have you ever used a knife to pry something? "Let him that is without sin cast the first stone" Quote: Jesus Christ

Nope... There's a right tool for the right job. Not going to chance prying something and snapping\bending the tip on my knife.

Even if I wanted to, I certainly wouldn't use a knife with a super thin blade and a needle tip.

I'm curious about the hardness test figures. 30HRC at the edge and 52 at the tip seems a bit unlikely on such a tiny blade, even if one were deliberately attempting a differential temper.

Mr. Sagan wasn't kidding when he said extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Unfortunately though, it seems like the master craftsman has no interest in this discussion anymore.
I didn't say 52 was at the tip. Differential tempers are used to give a hard edge and soft spine instead of soft edge and hard spine. In all your expertise, do you make knives?

Where have I said it wasn't my fault. I bent the blade of Ole Bendy, my name for my Kershaw Leek. Notice I did not break it, I bent it prying a soft piece of plastic off a motorcycle battery.
Also your intelligence is impressive.

I never said you broke it.....I said damaged it. I just find it funny that you intend to show it off at shows, a knife that you messed up, without contacting Kershaw. I'll be honest....you sound like a petty person. I'll note that name Echols knives as a company to avoid.

Another note...I ride and have since the mid 70's. If my bike does not have a tool kit...like most every new bike has....under the seat, or behind a panel.....I carry a Leatherman. Saying you were not carrying some type of mutitool while riding shows your complete lack of forethought.

Plus any knife person looking at a Leek would see that it is not the optimal tool to be prying things.

Have a good Holiday.

Name me a sub 100 dollar production knife with a differentially hardened blade...

I will let the membership consider your denial.

I'm not sure what's going on with this thread other than a claim of an issue with a production knife. There doesn't seem to be any desire to let the manufacturer handle this through it's warranty service. There also seems to be an unwillingness to provide any additional information beyond the spoken word which means this thread is going to continue to slide down hill with finger pointing and subtle insults. I don't see anything productive coming from further discussion.
