I saw a Leek at Wal-Mart for 47.97. Good buy?

I would hardly call 440A "sub-par", it produces a perfectly servicable knife and is IMO quite acceptable for a knife at this price point. I think some people get way too caught up in the "super-steel-of-the-day" fanfare. Few if any people really need CPM-S30V or D2 blades unless you are doing lots of heavy cutting on a daily basis.$38 is not worth it for a 3" knife blade with sub par steel
Only if you use it for a pry-bar or screw driver. I've got several Leeks, some of them over 5 years old and never broke a tip on any of them.and a tip that breaks off waaaay too easily.
I can only say I never had a problem with the torsion bars of any of my Kershaws. Also, the torsion bars are hit and miss. Mine broke after two weeks.

Alright, it is not sub-par. However, I think paying $50 for a 3" blade that is 440A is a poor deal. . . maybe not for retail prices, but why pay $50 when you can get it for so much less? I would want to see at least VG10 for a $50 price point on a 3" blade.
The blade tip is a bit too narrow and thin that it can break just from heavy use, even if you aren't doing something you shouldn't like using it to pry or as a screw driver.
You are lucky then. There have been a lot of QA problems with the torsion bars.
Either way, would you agree with me that $50 is too much to pay for a Leek? Especially when you can get much better knives out for the same price?
What is wrong with 440A? It is as good as the steel in your Saks or your Leatherman tools. And as stated, it is now 13C26 as the standard steel with higher grades also available.Alright, it is not sub-par. And all the new ones set to be made and/or being made are 14C28N.
