I picked up a Kershaw OD-1 just over a week ago. I have been absolutely impressed by this knife. A smooth as silk flipper framelock with G-10 for $40.00. Whats not to like. I hope in the not to distant future that Kershaw gives us some options for this model as they have with other models. Such as blade steels. I believe it would be an outstanding platform for their composite ZDP-189 blade or even the damascus. I also would like to see one offered with orange G-10. And last but not least, I think an OD-2 which could be a bit larger. About the size of the ZT in the photo, but has the same action and options. What say you?

only thing the OD-1 NEEDS is the tip up clip holes drilled in a useable position so 3/4" of knife doesn't stick out of my pocket. WHY OH WHY does Kershaw do that? bad enough you get a quarter of in inch cuz of the clip style, then you add a half an inch of handle too :(

It's sad too, that was my problem with my leek and with this, I'll probably trade it away just because of that.... Other than that it's a great knife, I like the action, blade length is good, F&F is great (as always with kershaw), I'd love s30v or some other premium steel, but it's fine the way it is.

I think kershaw needs a nice higher end steel. Id say continue the tradition of ZDP/ Titanium Framelock. Go with that and Id be amazed.

Yeah, fun knife, huh? I just learned about some of the local formites making clips. I think a few of mine need to be sent in for some work. I like your 350 as well. Need to see one in person.

I like mine, but I'd like to see a larger version with a slightly better detent.

Different steels are always a plus, but I like the sandvik.

I don’t have any problem with the steel but a little more detent would be nice.

That or do a combo blade for the OD-1. Something like the Sandvik W/ZDP edge or D2 would be nice.

More detent would prevent the Overdrive mechanism from working. You wouldn't be able to open the blade.

As far as a higher end steel, we feel 14C28N is really good. It's a new pattern though, so it's possible for future variations.

In that case I don’t think more detent would be worth it. The knife is smooth as silk and I wouldn’t wanna mess that up. I love the steel btw, its worked beautifully for me.

I'd like one with s30v. A full stainless handle and and at least a small thumb stud.

Wouldn't a thumb stud defeat the purpose of the whole design?

I think an OD-2 which could be a bit larger.

The OD-2 is a bit smaller, like a Chive from what I understand.

I've been really impressed with 14C28N, but an orange G-10 with some D2 would be pretty sweat.

I just bought the OD1 this week and I am very, very impressed ! I must say whoever put the final edge on this knife did an excelent job.
It has a wickedly sharp edge out of the box !!!
I can see this knife becoming as popular as the Leek.
And we all know how many versions of the Leek there are.
I've looked at the Leek's but I just haven't bought one yet.
But, the first time I held this knife I just had to buy it.
The flipper is flawless, it has G10, and a frame lock, the new Sandvick 14C28N, for $40.00. WOW !!:)
If there were other versions of this knife I would buy some over the Leek.
Kudos to Lee Williams for this great innovative design !

Btw, Thomas, I really miss the Kershaw sub forum. I read, but hardly post here anymore.
But I still love Kershaw Knives.

Hey I think it is a great steel. Polishes up nicely and gets wicked sharp. I just think a higher end steel would appeal to others and would give people aka me, more incentive to buy ANOTHER!!!

That was where I was going when I started the thread. With some minor changes, (not design or action) I would own several of these. Look at the Leek line. There are a boatload of different style leeks to choose from. I am about to get a "Zing" as well. I am sure it will be a great knife. It's the Orange that gets me. (shinny things are purdy!) :D:thumbup:

I think Kershaw hit a home run with the OD-1. I had an initial small picky concern about the flipper getting snagged, but that has not been an issue at all. I hope this knife becomes as popular as the Leek.

My 440A Leek is still going strong after years and I think the OD-1 has even more going for it. Sure different steels would be fun and I hope it happens. I'd simply like to see either tan or brown G-10 used.

Tan G10:eek: That would be really cool!
Otherwise I still didn' t buy myself one, I' ll probably wait until I see them available here in Germany as i really don' t want to order from the USA and have to pay customs again...

I just got an OD-1 and it's a great knife! So clean looking when it's open.
I would prefer the clip to be farther up in the tip up position though.
Is there a Kershaw company guideline for how much the blade tip sticks out of the pocket so the tip doesn't get caught when drawing the knife?
The flipper works well once you realize that pressure on the lock makes it difficult to open.

I'm digging mine, I would definitely like to see some variants.
