Why was this knife discontinued? Its flipping awesome. I just got one from Dave (blem) and it's fantastic. I love the opening mechanism and the size and shape. I can't understand why this was discontinued? Anyone else have one and love it?

I have one, too. I think it looks sort of refined when closed and elegant when open. And the way the flipper stud retracts when open to keep the sleek lines is just plain cool.

Ive had one since they were first released, and my only complaint is that during tip-up...there is far too much knife sticking above the clip.

A really great knife in an innovative and interesting design though.

Bought one on clearance. Great knife.

It was too awesome to stay in production  just like the RAM, Junkyard Dog (although they still have the 2.2), ET...jeez it's hurting me just to think of all the awesome knives that AREN'T made anymore :(

Isn't that the truth. I agree about the amount sticking up in tip up mode, but lost of Kershaws are like that honestly.

Never had a chance to play with an OD1, but I have an OD2, and that flipper mechanism is just awesome. Like bpeezer said, Kershaw has done away with a number of really cool items in recent times. :(

I started with the OD-2 and thought that was the best flipper. So naturally I needed the OD-1 and damn is it sweet. I got mine here on the exchange a few months ago.

Best bang-for-buck knife I've ever had (and I have many). The JL Williams flipper design is the best. I don't understand why these weren't seen as an excellent product, and more made! It's hard to find any OD-1's any more ... Lot' of OD-2's out there but they're just too small for me. I bought two OD-1's when they came out and will keep and use both. I'll never get on JL's list, so these will be my only knives of his most likely.

I love this little knife. I need to pick up a second one before they're all gone.

Easy fix for riding too high in the pocket when carrying tip up. I switched out the clip from a ZT on mine. I also replaced the back spacer.

Sweet  This almost drives me to get one... but then I'd need a ZT as well for the clip ;)

I recently gifted away a NRG 1740, also discontinued and featuring the disconnected flipper/stop-pin - a great little scalpel of a knife

The only reason KAI discontinues knives is because they don't sell as well as other models.

All of our favorite knife brands do that- their best models get discontinued and then people go crazy searching for them in the aftermarket. Maybe the knives that people like the most are too expensive to make so they discontinue them and try to sell the knives that are easier to make but that people don't seem to like as much.

Anyone know where I can snag one? I've been looking for months! Does Dave still have any? I wouldn't mind the OD2, even with its lack of frame lock, but I want the steel over the 2's blade.

I've heard those have horribad blade retention. Both models, actually. That, and the rust-o-matic bead blast, are what has kept me from buying them when I've seen them pop up. I really like the flipper mechanism, though.

You should have your hearing checked, because you've heard wrong. I've carried the OD-1 for a long time, and I've had no issues with blade retention or rust issues. Can't speak for the 8Cr model, because I don't have one.
