Kershaw OD1

I received a Kershaw Ener-G as a gift several years ago. It was my first nice pocket knife and is the knife that got me into knives. It has the same flipper design as the OD1....

This isn't true. The Ener-G is a free-floating cam action while the OD knives have a fixed cam that runs in a track. Somewhere around here are pictures of both of them taken apart.

... Id love to see them bring the OD-1 back with a satin finished blade and maybe some wood or carbon fiber handle scales it would make an excellent gentleman's folder:D

That's exactly why I'm looking for one, if I can find one I'll make a CF scale for it and have a nice little gentleman's flipper.

I cannot find the Ener-G image but below is the OD-1 image (by 2brothers). The Ener-G flipper absolutely runs in tracks in the liners such that it functions as both stop-pin when the blade is deployed and also blade-stop when closed. But if you mean that it isn't attached to the blade, neither is attached. But the OD-1 flipper-mechanism has an arm that encircles a pin which runs in a liner-track, and the pin goes through the blade-tang. That pin also serves as a secondary stop-pin and blade-stop. The arm prevents the flipper from moving independently of the blade. Both are very neat designs with similar function but indeed different. The OD-1 device seems less durable but should be sufficient to endure the repeated minimal pressure required to overcome the detent and flip the blade open, assuming you have the pivot properly arranged.

My apologies I didn't mean to spread false info. I was under the impression they were both designed by Lee Williams and both used the same flipper design. I stand corrected.

Glad I'm not the only one who misses the OD-1....
For those who have trouble with the flipper mechanism...Pull straight back along the back of the handle with your finger and it should flick right open. Any force applied downward into the handle is wasted as it only puts force on the pivot pin. When I first got the knife I had trouble with trying to flick it open, but once I figured out how to properly deploy the blade, I was able to open it just as fast as any speedsafe knife.

I've never had a problem with edge retention or rust/staining. I do however wipe my knives down about every other month with a rem oil wipe though. Normally when right before I clean my shotgun I will grab a wipe, wipe all my knives and then use the same wipe on my guns (they are big wipes).

Has anyone else noticed the two different models of the OD-1?
There appears to be this one...

And this one....(The one I have...)

Looks like the first one is drilled for tip up carry and has a pivot screw on the G-10 side. It also appears to have a coarser texture on the G-10 and no lanyard hole.

The first one might be a pic of the OD-2
