Kershaw Rake rust issue/added forced patina

Does anyone know if using the pcb solution will work on the newer rake with the stonewash finish?

I just ordered a rake, and I just stumbled across this thread. how has the etched part of the blade held up since you did it? Also, you said "I filled up a red dixie cup 60% of the way, and added solution until it was slightly darker than apple cider." You filled it up 60% of the way with what? Water?

Sorry I just saw your question. Here is a picture of it as of today. Can't say I've used it much since then as I've picked up a lot more knives since then.

As to the solution, yes I filled it up with water and then added solution to the water. Using water helps slow down the process some and also saves you from using as much PCB fluid.

FYI yes my Kershaw logo really is that washed out. I think it was the metal polish that took out the coloring. It's still cut into the metal some but there's no more coloring to the logo.

Thanks for the post! I just did my Rake today, and it turned out really nice! Something different that I did was use a cotton swab to spot apply the solution to an area that was not getting as dark as the rest of the D2, and it really helped to get the patina even. Btw, the logo on my blade didn't seem to lighten up on my knife, but you definitely don't want to use a good knife to cut out the foil seal on the bottle, as the full strength solution will stain even stainless steel in an instant (I found out when I used my Rake; I got a spot on the very tip of the carrier steel when I cut out the foil seal).

Edit: Btw, I love how the edge shows up bright once you re-sharpen the blade, very cool!

Hmmmm... I wonder if this would work on the 14C - ZDP CB (only reverse, as the ZDP has a much higher chrome concentration).

Figured I'd update this thread with some better pictures and a little more polishing on the blade.

Greetings all,
don't laugh, but i've had the best rust-resistance results with a good car wax. Give it a couple coats and see what you think. Works great for me. Take care and best regards.

Loving the contrast, I should have done this to my Volt after it rusted... Oh well, it's long gone!

D-2 is really not a stainless steel. I have swords made in the stuff, if you leave a finger print on it, it will rust.

It's nearly a stainless steel. Only 1% chromium away from being considered "stainless." It's not the rust monster people make it out to be.
