Since this is the last variation I own, this will be the last week for the 0392 for a while. I know there were at least two other variations that I was not able to get, the green and the purple versions.

Yeah guy surely has a fantastic collection of ZTs. Unfortunately it seems the glory days of KAI producing these magnificent pieces have been long gone.

Has anyone ever seen a Kershaw 1420ST with a black G10 handle like this one pictured below before?

A Google search did not reveal any pics or references to another example of such a knife ever being made by Kershaw. Posting this question here because I'm looking for answers from Kershaw fans who are more likely to know the answer (if any).

As far as I know, the 1420 and 1420ST were only made w/Ti scales. The only G10 scale Talons that I know of are the manual 1422ST and the assisted 1425.

Never heard of a G10 1420ST before I saw this one on EB which just doesn't look "right" to me. I'm thinking that it's a "franken Talon" -- a Ti 1420ST blade put into a 1422ST G10 handle.

What do you all think?

sgt1372 sgt1372 yeah, I’ve seen the g10 versions of those as well as the Starkey Ridge but the model numbers on the blade seem like a franken version.

Thanks for your response.

As noted previously, there are 2 "legit" G10 versions of the Talon which are the 1422ST and 1425.

All of the Starkey Ridges that I own (the 1415, 1415ST and 1416) have G10 scales and the shape of their handles is straight not curved like on the Talons.

So, I'm still inclined to think that someone took a blade off of a 1420ST and put it on a 1422ST handle.

Can't imagine why someone would do that but that's the only "answer" that makes any sense, unless Kershaw actually made a G10 1420ST but I have not been able to find any proof of that yet.

Waiting to hear from anyone else who actually knows whether that's the case or not.

The reason for my questioning the existence of a G10 Kershaw 1420ST above was due to my recent acquisition of a G10 1422ST which you can see here.

The acquisition of the 1422ST completes my collection of manual Kershaw Talons.

There is an assisted G10 Talon -- the 1425 Talon II -- which I don't recall ever seeing for sale but, if I do, I'll probably buy it, if the price is right, but I don't think that it is a necessary addition to this collection.

Even if I never find/buy a 1425 Talon II, there is still the assisted ZT0750 (whch I nearly forgot about) which is virtually identical to its Kershaw cousins and a handsome companion to the 1422ST.

I said this a few times already: a skinny 0562 (cf, ti, and g10 or micarta) would be better than any ZT models released in recent few years.

seeing all the cool ZTs from many years past makes me sad for the state ZT is in right now.
I'm hopefully they release some good stuff in 2022. Maybe some solid new designs with MagnaCut. Most likely though, the same 20CV Ti flippers. With their production capabilities they could surely branch out into some different locks and materials. Fingers crossed.

Honestly I’d just be happy if they updated and rereleased some of their older designs. I’d love a ti 0566 with ball bearings, an unassisted 0770cf and 0350. I just feel the speedsafe is fine for a lower price point like Kershaw but for ZT it needs to be ditched, especially in 2022. The last ZT I bought was the 0308 a few years ago.

or continue some collab with Emerson.

I am going with the ZT 0777M390 this week -

Lucky you! :)

I've had a couple of opportunities to buy a 0777 but always balked at the price.

Oh well . . . I'll just have to continue to "make do" with its cheaper cousin, the ZT 0770 CF M390. ;)
