Kershaw/ZT Picture Thread!!! Let's See Em'!

You ZT 456 guys, which you like better; the satin or black wash. Considering but can't make up my mind.

I prefer the satin just because I like Satin blades but the Blackwash was good looking.

I like the black wash, the incidental scratches/marks blend in and you have to look at it closely to see the scratches.

My only ZT is the 0562cf. What an amazing knife it is.... I really should carry it more often. I was looking it over again last night closely and damn it is such a well built tough knife. Perfect craftsmanship.

I decided to add a finger choil to my ZT-0562CF to better mimic the Hinderer knives they emulate. What a great looking "Slicer" Blade, even before the choil was added...

I used a US Nickle as a guide to form a uniform and great looking finger choil. I used a 1" diameter thin cut-off stone in a flex-shaft machine to rough in the shape, checking frequently with the nickel to see "where" material had to come off.

The cuts were made perpendicular to the blade ,as it offers more control to specific locations that need to come off, and also generates less heat overall because you're grinding such a small area at a time.

I finished off with a 1/2" rubber sanding drum with 320 grit. The grit soon smooths over and you get a nice polish too. Hardened steel will do that! ;)

I also rounded over the sharp-ish flipper, as I lost the first 1/2" of my flipping Index finger 45 years ago. Much better now for me, and everyone else who has tried it. It "glides" off my finger tip now, and the beveled edges a joy to "nubby".

The original flipper shape before rounding off the pointed area, adding the finger choil and smoothing off and rounding the edges of the flipper...

After I made the changes I found a grippier G10 Scale from a custom maker in Russia going by the name "marsilero" on ebay. It is a precision fit, and I like the added grooving for an improved grip, especially in damp conditions. Here's a photo from the listing on ebay for just the grip, to see the CNC pattern.

It cost me $55 plus $6 shipping. Not cheap but quality rarely is. Here's the link if any of you are interested. [Link to non-BF dealer removed.]

Mod: sorry about linking the Russian maker of the scale above, but I was just trying to help those who might be interested in obtaining a Custom more grippy G10 Scale for their ZT-0562 and ZT-0562CF a way to find it before they are gone. As it's a proprietary design NOT likely to be resold by any BF dealer, (he doesn't wholesale as far as I know),... I didn't think it would be an issue.

YMMV

Okay, a color question. Anyone have or seen both the Hinderer red and OD scales in person? Which is most popular with users and which do you prefer? oh and one other thing, is this lock up safe?

Hmm sheesh I dont know. That lock up is really on the edge of where it could be. Can you push the frame in more to secure the lock up? I'm not sure how safe that is or unsafe but it certainly isn't as good as it could be..

Well, this is the thing, it is knife I am considering buying. Looks a little shallow to me. Probably fine but.....

I have one xm-18 with OD green scale and I think it is the best color (among blue, black/green, and tan that I have). The lock up is early but not abnormal, which many people prefer.

Man oh man, nice. I really wanted to like this knife but the jimping was sharp as hell. Sold it. Might have to try again and see if I have better luck.

It's a good time to pick one up since they are being discontinued. $149 delivered!

Great job making a great model your own! I love the 0562CF. Best overall knife ZT makes in my opinion.

Yes,...it's probably the best offering in the current ZT lineup, but I wish they offered the same model but with Phosphor Bronze washers rather than ball bearings. I think it would be much more useful in tough conditions.

ZT has been adding more and more ball bearing knives and I think they've moved away from the "no compromises" stance in doing that. The ZT-0200 is way more "overbuilt" than any ball bearing model can be, and much more dependable in mud and grit.

Also, if you've had a ZT-0562CF apart you'll see the pivot is rather thin walled and small diameter. I'd much rather have a solid 1/4" diameter steel pivot on this model. Love that on my ZT-0200.

Even if they left off the ZT-0200 "nut" at the end, and used a screw to connect into the pivot,...the pivot would still have a much thicker wall thickness than what's currently there, and that would be a big step up in strength.

Someday I may add a larger 1/4" pivot to mine, and possibly convert it to PB Washers using a bronze bushing to fill the ball bearing recesses, and top off with about a .015 or .020 PB washers. Then she'd be rock solid and I'd be more inclined to use mine "hard".
