Kershaw/ZT Picture Thread!!! Let's See Em'!

It might be stupid and I suppose a little paranoid, but I figured I wouldn't give clone companies more matching serial numbers. It seems they often re-use the same numbers, so if a 0392BLK happens to come up for sale and it has the same number as mine, it's an indication it's fake. It's less likely with the 0392s, but with the other production models it's more likely. *shrug*

I'm curious:

For you guys that have used knives with bearings in them. What is maintenance like? Does the knife need to be taken apart often or at all?

I admit I may be exaggerating but if a brand new ZT0562/0562cf can be flicked open with the thumbstud, it might be defective.

I'm not exaggerating, I guarantee you that my 0562CF can't be flicked open by anyone on the face of the planet. And I love it that way

They are both broken in. But yeah brand new and with the tiniest pressure on the lockbar it is close to impossible.

I use mine in a fairly dirty factory, I try to clean it once a day with some compressed air before my shift ends. But disassembly hasn't been necessary. I do weekly rotations though.
Unless you submerge your knife or work in sandstorms I don't think regular disassembly is necessary.

I'm not sure what I've done but the knife doesn't seem to flip as well as it did this morning.

I haven't cut anything with it and work in an office but when i go to fliip it it will only flip about halfway out unless I give it a major wrist flick.

Put a bit of lubricant on the detent ball.

Which model? Maybe you mentioned it before. One issue I had was on the 0920 where the coating on the pivot wore off and gunked up the action.

My rule with all knives (folders) is to give them a couple days to a week of use/carry to break in the factory action. If the knife feels like it's under-performing (I don't have the same expectations for every knife's action, namely relative to price), I'll disassemble and do a full deep clean.

Bearing knives have not needed this disassembly any more or less than other types of pivots. In fact, the only outlier I can think of in my experience is plastic washer pivots; those require special attention, and are usually on cheaper knives anyway. Some manufacturers tend to have worse or better bearings, but since this is the Kershaw/ZT thread, I'll just say that my ZT's have tended to have higher quality bearing systems.

That definitely helped.

Thanks, good to know!

Love love love the 0909. I was able to get a titanium deep carry pocket clip made for it and its great! Sad that it never really caught on, I suspect because it is more of a hard use knife instead of the pocket jewelry that ZT seems to be producing now.

I thought long and hard about one but it's a little hefty for me.
